Cool Where's best place to sell a bike?

It's not possible to take a (bigger) bike where I'm going to live (Vietnam), and not feasible to travel through China or Burma (please correct me on this anyone?). So I need to buy a bike in UK, and sell on in Vladivostok / India / Nepal / Bangladesh / xxxstan / etc.

Does anyone have any suggestions / gotchas / paperwork tips/ type of bike ideas for me to offload a bike around end July 2010 with as few headaches as possible?

Any help would be a help (obviously

Yep, China seems to be tough to get into (and very expensive)... Burma is even tougher.

Just lately some seem to have managed to get their bikes into Vietnam, but the process looks a bit similar to China, with preparations long before crossing the border, and the guide and considerable costs.

But maybe if you´ll go to live there, that could make a difference. I´d do more research on that option, as I know there are some expats there who have big bikes.

Selling a bike bought in the UK in Asia, for one thing you might not be able to get a price that´d suit you. And then there are several carnet countries in the region - they have the carnet system to prevent you from selling a vehicle you bought elsewhere, so doing it legally you´d have to pay considerable import taxes.
Sending the bike back to Europe is also an option, and by ship it might not cost a fortune, just takes a little bit of time... but if you ship from India, be prepared for some hassle!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
