Vladivostok to U.S

Hi

Does anyone have any information about shipping bikes from Vladivostok to the United States without going into Korea? The reason for this is myself and three mates are planning to do a round the world trip (next year) and are worried that if anything kicks up over in Korea due to the sinking of that South Korean ship that we could be forced into a war zone.

Any information would be great.
Thanks

There are options via Japan.

However, you need a carnet for Japan.
The ferry from Vladivostok also goes via Korea.:eek3:
The other ferry goes from Sakhalin island to the northernmost point of Japan.

i put my bike in a container last summer from vladivostok to seattle.about $3000. it took 2 days to do the paper work but was easy .i put my bike into the container myself so no loading fee.the container then goes to pusan south korea and gets put onto a bigger ship that then takes it to seattle.you then need to get a truck to bring the container from the dock in seattle to a place that you can unload the bikes ( i think it was just over $300 ).it takes about 3 weeks altogether but if you have 3 or more bikes this is the cheepest way out to the states i think.

While in Vlad last summer we met a German guy who was shipping his bike direct to USA (Seattle I think) while he flew.
No idea of costs but he got charged for the whole container (sharing would reduce individual costs) and the formalities were no great difficulty.

It was really a matter of visiting the various shipping companies once you are there.
From my own experience shipping from Magadan to Vlad we spent a day or so finding out which shipping line has a boat arriving/departing to one of our hoped for destinations.
There is no scheduled timetable - just pot luck on the day - or wait a few days longer.

Each shipping line has their own agent. There is no centralised information.

my bike went in with the german guy that tony p met and that 3000 was for the full container so if the are lots of bikes it could work out cheep
