Vehicle transport by air cargo
 

We are thinking of shipping our Land Rover Defender to Kenya as we will be staying there for about 8 weeks at the beginning of 2010. After our stay we would like to leave our car in Nairobi so we can use it for shorter trips.

As I heard quite some bad stories of shipping a vehicle to Mombasa or Dar, I was looking for other options. (Namibia or SA is too far as we only have these 8 weeks and we will be working for at least 6 weeks in Kenya). I found out that there is the possibility to transport the vehicle with air cargo from Liege (Belgium) to Addis with Ethiopian Cargo. I emailed them and got a quote of 3000 Euros one way excluding AWB+ EXPORT DOCUMENT and DGR documents.

Does anyone have any experience with transporting a vehicle by air, about the hidden costs and especially how long it takes to get the vehicle through customs?

I asked all the questions Ethiopian Cargo but it takes always quite long to get any replies from them.
