UK to Anchorage

Hi
We are planning to air freight our 1200GS to Anchorage next year (July 2009) for a trip down to TDF and have been quoted £1100 including crate etc. from Uk, does this sound expensive and are there alternatives? by sea? different destination?

Sounds about right

A guy who stayed with us for a week or so shipped his bike to Alaska (by air) with James Cargo and paid about that. He said the service was great and everything was hassle free. Another guy who also stayed with us at the same time shipped his to New York. It took him quite a while to get his bike. I think the ship arrived late and then it was a pain getting it out of the dock etc. It may have taken him 10 days but I can't honestly remember. I don't think in the end it was any cheaper.
You can search for the second guy's story at Celtic Adventurer - Riding the World. The first guy is Alistair Clegg and if you do a google search for him and Buell you should find his website.
If you are coming through Mex City send me a mail. we can put you up and show you around. Mex City is a great place to visit and why miss out on such a great place. I normally meet people just outside the city and guide them in. Americans normally shy away from the city, I think because of bad press. Hardy Brits, Europeans and Ozzies always seem to show up. Anyone is welcome and we even make people a cuppa in the mornings.
my email is garrydymond (at) prodigy (dot) net.mx

There is a 'shipping' thingy over on the left .. should have all the people who have shipped ... Alternatives? Think there is a roll on roll off ferry from UK to USA .. then you'd ride through Canada ..

Thanks!

Hi
Thanks for the info guys, Gary we will definitely keep in touch, for me the best part of travelling is meeting the locals. Frank, followed your advice and looked left but it seems most of the posts are somewhat out of date. on a separate note I used to live in Sydney way back, before the footie teams were named after fish and furry animals, and two up was a sly game not a sexual pastime!! went back in 2006 to show the family and Sue and I are looking to come back to work for a few years when the wanderlust wears off (IF!!!)

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
