Turkish Airlines

Greetings All!

I have lurked here for some time, and greatly appreciate all of the excellent info. Thanks to each and every one of you.

I am planning on sending my much loved R80ST across the Atlantic for a two month trip, and then place it in storage until the Spring when I'll head back for some more fun. I'd love to start my trip in or near Turkey, then drive back to Western Europe.

Does anyone have any experience shipping with Turkish Airlines? Last month, I spoke with a fellow in the cargo department with THY in Chicago, and he quoted an incredibly favorable rate from Chicago to Istanbul. (Less than $500, weight based, including dangerous cargo). Now that I am firming up my plans, I'll be calling him back for some more info. He seemed rather new at THY, but stated he had shipped numerous bikes for El-Al.

Just wondering if anyone has had any other dealings with Turkish Air, or could offer any other experiences in shipping from North America to Turkey or Eastern Europe.

Thanks,

Jeff

No one else has answered so here's my minimal contribution.

I have flown Turkish Airlines on quite a few occasions from Dubai to the UK. Why? Because they often offer cheap deals.

I can't comment on their cargo service but they are a reputable European Airline.

I agree with above, I've flown Turkish several times and was happy. Please keep us informed as to how things go since this would be a great deal to eastern Europe.

My plans changed, so I am starting in Italy instead. For those interested in shipping to Turkey, you should still explore this option. The phone number for Cargo in Chicago is 773.462.9333

Sorry I couldn't be more of a help.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
