transport by train in Norway

Due to time considerations and other obvious reasons,
How feasible is it to use the train to cover some of the distance of the route heading north in Norway. I have been told it can be done, Oslo to Bodo is the route North I need to use, with the idea of riding the rest of the way to Alta and the Primus Borealis, then riding down into Finland.
I will be using a c90, and in Jan. The train can also act as a bail out if the snow is too deep.
I would hope that I could lash the 90 down in the goods box on the train.

Maybe you'll find more information here (Norwegian State Railways):

thanks

the website has no probs with taking a pushiron on the train, but there is no mention of motorcycles.
I will try ringing about the sales reps in GB.
I presume there must be some kind of luggage van, the winter roads are a bit dodgy (f.in cold) so, i guess the railway is pretty crucial on a day to day basis. it is worth a try.

Joe I am sure a few years ago I made some enquiries re transporting a bike on the train and it was not possible also I am sure the trains only go about as far north as Narvic. I think then its sea transport or roads. the trains are also pretty expensive. The other viable option but still costly is the coastal post ferry that calls in everywhere all the way to Kirkness and off season in Jan you should be able to strike a deal. I know your nuts on that c90 of yours but its getting pretty extreme to go that far - up North in Jan on anything with two wheels.

The train only reaches as far as Bodø. You may train-ride to Narvik, but then you'd have to travel through Sweden. In any case you'll only reach half-way up. The Coastal Route, "Hurtigruten", may be an option - check here: http://www.hurtigruten.no/en/default.aspx

There are other options, of course: Ride through Sweden. Boring, but straight-forward. Make sure you have spikes in your tires, though. Oh, and do bring something warm to wrap you into...

Actually, I'm planning on riding up north to Alta myself, but on an ATV. Or on my Ural sidecar.
