Stuck in Turkey, trying to get to India with bike by air or sea?

Hi, i've arrived in Turkey and come to the firm decision that Pakistan is no longer an option for travel, the bomb attack on New York last week was the last nail in the coffin.

So I need to look for a way around to get to either india or Malaysia(i'm open to other places) my final destination is Australia, but want to see a lot of south east asia before I get there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have been pouring over websites all afternoon trying to find a way around, read some reports of flying from Istanbul to India, but looked very expensive.

I've also read some reports of travelling to Dubai to get a freight/ferry boat to India, but nothing concrete.

I don't want to make a move to somewhere unless I have reliable information on how to progress once I get there, any help would be greatly appreciated, better yet if you have done it let me know?!?

pakistan safe?

Hi, i am planning a trip from the Uk to India this September. I spoke to the visa agency a few days ago and they told me that Iran and Pakistan were not a problem at the moment, i just wondered weather your information is correct. Is this something you have been told by the Pakistan embassy? I would be interested to know how you get on, good luck!

Came through Pakistan in March and had no problems, I would go back tomorrow.
Sorry I know that doesn't help your frame of mind but it's a great place to visit and would be a real shame to miss it. Also the bomb attack was in New York!

Could be possible to ship by sea from Bandar Abbas in Iran, but I have no actual experience of that. But shipping by sea, clearing the customs in India will most likely be a nightmare. Port Klang, Malaysia, gets much better reports on this (Bangkok seaport is also corrupted, or at least it used to be).

Pakistan is not 100% safe everywhere, but on the other hand, problems are mostly in areas, where you wont have to go on the main overland route from Iran to India. And regular locals are just as fantastic as they are in Iran, so youll definitely miss a lot if you skip it. But naturally everyone has to decide for themselves.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
