South Korea to Australia - info needed

I am plannig to get from Vladivostok to Australia with my Africa Twin around September 2009. There are two options (I don't consider shipping from Vlad as it is a pain...).

One way is to take the ferry to Japan and then use KiwiCar RoRo. This seems to be more expensive (the cost of ferry to Japan is almost double of that to S.Korea) and for the accomodation prices in Japan. CPD is not a problem as I will have one.

The other way is to ship from South Korea (as done by Mike and Jo Hannan). This is probably the option I will choose as I would prefer to use the air freight after all.
Or am I wrong and you would advise other solution to get my bike to Australia?

Could you please recommend any shipper that does South Korea to Australia bike transport?

Peter

Japan

Hi,

I am also looking at shipping around the same time. I have been having issues trying to find a good value way of going via Japan. The cost of flights though from Japan to Aus are significantly cheaper if you fly with companies like jetstar. I have been unable to find prices from south korea that match the ones from Japan. If you find anything please let me know. I will do the same if I find any good information.

Regards,

Jimmy.

Hi Jimmy,
thanks for replying. I will do more research on both options and be very happy to exchange data and opinions with you. I saw on your site that you are going on 2 bikes and that makes the sea shipment from Japan cheaper I guess. I am going 2 up on the other hand and that makes the difference as well.
I will send you my contact data in a private message.

Eagle shipping in Busan will get you down to Australia no problem. I did the reverse (Melbourne to Busan) last year and found Eagle very capable - give Mr S.K. Lee my regards if you use him.

The other benefit of Korea vs. Japan is that you don't need a carnet for Korea (or is that what you mean by having a CPD?).

If you want a cheap flight to Australia there are plenty of Seoul - Australia options, alternatively you can take the cheap 1/2 day ferry from Busan to Shimoseki in Japan and then fly from Japan.

Thank you very much for this information Garry. I managed to find Mr S.K. Lee email address and will send him an enquiry. I will have the carnet with me but I don' t plan visiting Japan unless it is better (cheaper as well) way to get to Australia.
Regards
Peter
