South America - Europa Bike Transport

Hola,

it´s maybe a bit early, but is anybody interested in sharing a container in m
May with me?

I need to ship my motorbike in the beginning or middle of May 2008 from Buenos Aires or Valparaiso back to Germany/France/Netherlands/Belgium...
As I know, usually 4 motorbikes fit in one container.

Saludos

What is the price for the whole container? Do you have solid contacts with shipping companies in B.As.

It took us one week and 800 dollars, lots of frustrations, queueing up and uncooperative clerks just to get the bikes out...

I didn´t get an answer up to now from Hamburg Sued. But I have good experiences with them. From Germany to BA you don´t need a cradle. They push it like it is into a container.

It took me two half days without any help and 28 Pesos to get my bike out of the harbour. Everybody was very helpful and nice.
All the luggage was still at an on the bike and the bike was o.k.

The problem is, that they send this kind of containers more often from Hamburg to BA but very rarely back, so they want no single motorbikes.

Shipping Container

Hi
I would be interested in adding a bike to your container, a couple of things I would n´t like to go before mid May had not really planned to go back before June but if this works out a good price then mid May would be okay.
I have BMW 1150 I do not know if this makes a difference do they charge for the container or weight of container also does this make it a ride out of the port when we are back in Europe or does the container have to be delivered to an address, I am easy on which country I go back to as I am going to spend 5-6 weeks in europe before going back to the U.K.

Just a request: this is an interesting thread because it is in contrast to the much more usual, nowadays, flight method of shipping a bike - so, can you guys keep your information on here instead of going into a "huddle" via PMs or email.

Thanks,

Information- Shipping Cost

Hey everybodies,

I am planning a road trip Buenos-Aires-Ushuaia- San francisco in moto in January 2009 with one friend. Do you know the cost of transport shipping between europa and B.A approximatively or is it better to buy our motos in buenos Aires when we will arrive??thks for the information

I sent an email to Hamburg Sued, because I have good experience with them. Unfortunately I didn`t get an answer about the price for the whole container. They ship from BA to Hamburg.
It`s a container for 2 to 3 bikes. The bikes haven`t be set apart. As far as I know, the weight doesn`t matter.
My flight goes at the 17th of may 08 from BA, so I`m interessed to send my bike off before.
I will write a new post, as soon as I know more about the costs.

Cowboy62
HHSued charges for one bike from Hamburg to BA about 800 Euros.
To buy one is not that easy, see other posts at Southamerica. It`s not allowed to buy from locals.

Finally response

So finally, I got a response from Hamburg Sued.

A container with two bikes is 1332 USD (845 €) per bike, a container with 3 bikes is 1055 USD (670 €) per bike from BA to Hamburg. But it`s not sure at what time it`s possible, they will know it two weeks before.
A flight is about 1563 USD (991 €).

I`m about to check annother possibility, there is a Hostal in Valparaiso, named "Villa Kunterbunt" run by german/chilenian Owners they also organize cargo shipping for motorbikes.

Kaelbchen 25 Apr 2008 15:20

So I decided to ship with "Villa Kunterbunt" in Valparaiso at a cradle, this was the cheapest offer.

Hi once more,
There is a place over on the left of this page, under planning, for shipping details - will you put the information for your move of your bike in there please?
I guess it is still by ship when you mention a cradle.

Hi, I am Argentinean, and would like you to know that according to our laws you only can buy 0KM (brand new) bikes. Consider that before actually getting it you have to do some paperwork. This may take 3 to 5 days to be completed. Bikes are more expensive here than in Europe, nevetheless you may get a well equipped BMW 1200 GS for 23,000 U$ or a 650 GS for about 13,000 U$.For the same 13G you can also get a new Transalp (imported from Spain) Good luck!

spain - Bs. As.

hi cowboy62.
we shipped our r1100gs in late 07 from bilbao to bs. as. have yet to put an entry on the shipping bikes thingy.
3m3 or so, the whole thing cost us about EUR650 including having a crate built for about half that.
no hassle at all getting it in to argentina, cost about an extra USD150 at the shipping agent. was good to know the importation procedure, thanks to Sandra at Dakar Motos for that.
cheers,
andy.
