Shipping RoRo to South Africa - the risks?

We are looking at reversing our North-South plan and shipping our Unimog by Roro to SA and driving North. We've spent over a year and thousands on equipping it and don't want to arrive at the port to find all our equipment pilfered and need to re-equip in an unknown environment.

Has anyone got any experience either good or bad that could help us evaluate this risk - are we worrying about something that just won't happen, or is it probable? We wouldn't be too worried about it happening at the end of the trip as we wouldn't be dependent upon the gear anymore, so the North-South direction is currently still more attractive to us.

Thanks,

Ian
