late bloomer

guys
i might be in on this south america deal. if i can get my bike shipped over from europe in time, the mid december departure is possible; November departure not.

I am switching continents as a i cant pull off the african adventure now. I have a GSA, live in seattle. I would ride to LAX i guess.

how many are committed on this transport?

so i read gaston's latest email, and this thread... and still a little confused about who wants to go when. as i read it,

gaston's november container (w/ december 7th arrival): maxvert (max), sarah, jeffrey
gaston's december container (w/ early january arrival): porkandcorn (fritz), coach (neil??), jimosse (jim)

can someone else confirm or correct this??

I'm in for December

Yes, i'm liking this. Count me in.
I have spent the last 5 months researching Africa but in the last 24 hours have finally let it go. Arranging things from Italy as my job winds down here and i find myself with a US spec bike and no legal registration and the Libyan attack and a zillion other things. SA sounds easy. I will have to come back.

I can not make November. I should be able to make mid Dec. Fritz are you land shipping your bike from Portland? I'd do that too. A december run down I5 or even US1 ain't the best.

Somewhere I saw a kilobuck per bike ex LA, is this right?
Jim

As it stands now, the December Arrival container has four bikes/riders
Max, Sarah, Jeffery and Neil.
Looks like a 20 ft. container.

If I'm correct the January Arrival has 5
Jonz, his riding partner, and you three.

gaston

I have been in touch with the man behind the container and it seems good.
Either Dec 13 (Jan02 arrival) or Dec 20 (Jan 06 arrival).
LA to Santiago.
I have been thru every option of shipping my bike in the last 4 months. I was going to africa by simple grimaldi lines italy to tunisia. Libyan consulate attacks and too many problems with USA license of a USA spec bike bought in europe, fly to Nairobi for 1000 euros (could be gotten down to 7-800?) plus 300 euro crating; at least i got a response. turkey to egypt. UK to Namibia by private organized container. In the end, nothing.

So far i'm impressed by this outfit. He answered all my questions in detail.
now if i can only get my bike from Germany to Seattle to start this trip. It's another reason to do SA.
Fellow riders, lets do it!

jan 06

hey jim,

i'm not sure if you are in our email discussion or not, because of screen names vs. real names , but 2 of us so far are interested in the january 06 arrival date in valpariso.

you might consider just getting your bike from germany to LA, to avoid have to ground transport it from seattle to LA, which is where the container leaves from.

let gaston know you want to join the jan 06 group, and i'm sure he'll include you in future communications.

Hi Jim,
Check out Motorcycle Express to Vancouver B.C.
We used them to ship to Europe, very good service.
Shipping a moto by air into or out of the US is problematic.
They are classified as dangerous goods and you need to jump through
a lot of hoops ( paperwork etc. ).

The November container to Chile just had three bikes decide not to
ship.
But it looks like a SUV wants to take it's place.
I'm still trying to ship on this one but if not will air freight from
Van B.C.
Space still available, anyone else.
Max

clarification:

jim, there are 4 (possibly 5 people) interested in january arrival dates. 2 of those 4 are voting for the group to use the jan 06 arrival.
