Shipping Panama to Cartegena, Columbia

There's loads of info about flying the bike from Panama to Columbia (mostly Bogota) but couldn't find any recent info about people shipping by sea to Cartegena which Ive been told is much cheaper and fairly easy.
Can anyone enlighten me about this route please? Costs, shipping agents (in Colon I guess rather than Panama City), can you go with the bike, etc.
Hoping to go shortly after Xmas and possibly before New Year, there should be (hopefully) 4 people, two bikes and a sidecar outfit... not sure if that will make a difference.
Thanks,
Mark.

Shipping/flying from Panama to Bogota

As of early December '06, and assuming that a couple of recent posts are somewhat representative, it seems that in general the cost differential between transport by sea or by air is around $300.00. For a change of pace and if you have the time, the extra few days on the high seas would be cheaper and pretty interesting.

By Plane from Panama to Bogota:
Per person: ~$261.00
Per motorcycle: ~$550.00
Total: ~$811.00

By Boat from Panama (Porvenir) to Cartagena
Per person: ~$275.00
Per motorcycle: ~$250.00
Total: ~$525.00

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
