Shipping from Palermo Italy back to Australia.

Hi all, my 4 and a half month 35,000km journey from Vietnam to Italy (via China/Russia) has now come to an end and I need to ship my Burgman 650 back to Melbourne.

I am struggling finding any shippers here in Palermo - unlike my experiences in other countries, the Italians seem to be unusually unhelpful in this regard.

I am hoping to hear back from a company this afternoon but if not I fear I may need to ride back to Genove. My problem is time, I have to be back in Oz by end August and can't afford to wait days to hear whether it is possible or not to ship from Palermo.

Any experiences or suggestions are much appreciated.

Garry from Oz.

Sorry, dont know about shippers in Palermo.. but I´ve taken a ferryboat from Genoa to Sardinia, and later one from Sardinia to Sicilia, and I believe this boat came from Genoa (and continued to Tunisia)... this was way back in 1997, but maybe there still is a ferry connection between Sicilia and Genoa. May not be cheap, but crossing most of Italy by land wont be cheap, either.

OT:
may I ask, what was the magic trick you did, in order to get your bike temporarily imported into Vietnam?? Ive been trying to get a 115cc scooter in from Cambodia and Laos, and it sure doesnt seem very easy, doing it legally anyway...

Garry,

If you have time to ride it up to Felixstowe in England I have a container of bikes being loaded there on 10 September bound for Sydney. Cost for your Burgman Fxstwe to Sydney is $Aud1500.00 including Marine Insurance, Customs Clearance & Quarantine inspections - I assume the bike originated from Australia??

Hi all, I now seem to have found myself a shipper from Roma back to Oz for €600, the challenge now is to crate the bike prior to shipment. I need to find a local Rome Suzuki dealer with an empty crate in the next couple of days.

Thoughts anyone??

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
