Post Shipping Oz to Germany

I have just shipped my bike from Melbourne to Munich via Hamburg. The standard BMW GS crate I used was rather big (2.59 CBM).

Freight forwarder:
Alan McKeown

Albury NSW 2640
Tel 612.60213200

Total costs freight:
OCEAN FREIGHT AUD 1230.10
PLUS CARNET INSPECT AUD 222.50
TOTAL AUD 1452.60

Additional local costs:
Harbour & quay fees, customs, handling EUR 430.00

Service was pretty good. Duration of transport +/- 6 weeks.

Question The Crate

Hallo
have you maybe still got the crate? I'm looking for one since my girlfriend wants to ship her bike to Down Under in October some time.

I scrapped the crate I had used from Melbourne to Munich, but I've still got a big Kawasaki metal crate, which I could give to you for free. The crate isn't complete - it is just the pallet wand the frame fitting ontop. This means that you will have to cover the frame with cardboard or plywood or something similar.

On the other hand you could just contact your nearest BMW M/C dealer and ask for a used crate for one of the bigger bikes (GS, RT or the like). Since these are only used for one-way, the scrap them after use and should be glad if somebody carries their crates away ;-)

These crates are rather big though, since the bikes are transported standing upright on both wheels. And the wheight-volume is bigger than the actual wheight. So if you finish your own crate only as big to take the bike with the frontwheel removed you should pay less for your transport.

Send me an email if you want the Kawa crate: vaufi et gmx.net
