Shipping out of Ushuaia

I'd like to ship my bike from Ushuaia to Canada in Jan/Feb. Everything I see on here talks about shipping out from further north on the continent. Has anyone shipped out of Ushuaia, or a nearby port/city? Any advice or contacts?

I don't think it's possible. Or if it is, it's VERY expensive.

Buenos Aires is less than a weeks ride away if so inclined.

I met someone who had shipped out of Ushuaia, but unfortunately I can't remember any of the details--who it was, how it went, what it cost, or even whether they were happy about it or not. So all I've got to offer is that it is, in fact, possible.

Hope that's helpful.

Mark

How is that possible? It's at least 2,500km, and I hear the roads are pretty rough...and that's less than a week's drive?

The roads are not in the least rough. One short section is unpaved, but it was the finest, easiest ripio I saw anywhere in South America. Another short section transits a low pass just outside Ushuaia. The rest is paved, flat, straight, and relentlessly boring.

Ah, well, that's good news. For the delivery back anyway. Thanks for the info. My bike is for sale, but I may end up shipping it back to Canada if it doesn't sell.

Try to find out if you can do it from Punta Arenas, Chile, is a big city and very bussy port

Ushuaia is a container port, so it is possible to ship to Canada from there. Why not contact some shipping agents to gauge the probable cost?

In 2008, a friend of mine and Touring Ted's rode from Uruguay, where he'd bought a bike from a traveller, to Ushuaia in just three days, so as not to miss New Year's Eve at Rio Pipo. Arthur Gunning, we're not worthy .......... bier

Regards, Mick

If you get a container, I might be interested in sharing it...PM me?

Ideally I will sell the bike--the last guy backed out at the last minute. Maybe I can sell to a chilean at one of the free ports?

Shipping a container from P.Arenas or Ushuaia is $$$$ expensive because is cabotaje either to BsAs or Valparaiso .
Ground transporting the bikes to Santiago is a much better solution, then shipping out the bikes.

shipp from ushuaia

Hello. Four guys from vancouver canada just end up their ride in ushuaia. for what I understand the shipped their bikes from PUERTO MALDONADO. really i don't know how much they paid. I'm shipping my 800 gs to santiago chile from vancouver the first week in Jan 2013 and I think I got a very good deal only $1700. versus $ 5800 from Air Canada, a rip off. Or you can Ride to santiago instead of Buenos aires. and ship it from there. If you need the ship forward company's ph # let me know.
I'll be riding alone , if anybody is riding south by this time hopefully we can get together. I'm planning to watch the dakar from the 16 of jan to the 20th… then south to Ushuaia then north all the way to canada.
