Shipping out of Dakar
 

Anybody done the above in recent history?
Looks good price wise on Grimaldi's website, don't fancy all that time on the ship getting on it at Tilbury so was thinking a couple of weeks down to Dakar and only 6 days to SA.
I dare not ask...... but carnet free to Dakar?

did anybody try this ? it is somthing i am also thinking about . i would like to get of the ship in brazil . now i have herd that customs on the ports can be a pain in the a** in brazil .so if you arrive with your bike will it make things easy (it did for me in colombia ) i have crossed a land border in brazil and that was no problem or cost . so i was wanting to know if this is a good option and also what the all in cost will be . if any one has info please post on here thanks

Slight thread highjack, but based on a friends experience of shipping by sea into Brazil, I would avoid it all costs. Argentina is a much more common destination. Happy planning.

i am aware of the problems in brazil and that is why i asked if it would be any difference being on the ship with my bike and being there to clear customs myself like you would at a land border (this is how i did things in colombia ) i have no plans on shipping into BA and i realy cant see why everybody ships there for the price it costs . last time i was in south america i shipped from Suriname and that seemed verry easy and a lot cheeper. anyone with relevant info please.

All i've found out so far is Grimaldi from Dakar to BA is approx £1000 bike and rider, RO-RO.

Has anyone taken bike by airplane from Dakar to Brazil?
Is it much more expensive? Will this help with the customs issue?

I recently crossed the Atlantic on Grimaldi from Buenos Aires to Hamburg. The option to get down in Dakar is no longer valid. This was only available in 2010 and they stopped passengers rolling off the boat in Dakar in Jan, 2011.
You can still disembark as a passenger, but the bike has to go as cargo (crated).

I found out this was because some bikers last year used Grimaldi to Dakar and then didn't have the patience to wait in the port to properly process thru customs and just rode out into Senegal. The shipping company was left with the headache of illegally importing bikes from Europe and therefore, they stopped offering this service.

I was banking on going from BsAs to Dakar and then my plans got all messed up with this change in past few months.

Going the otherway (west :)) so no problemo. I'd love to know who ****ed it up for everybody else tho, prehaps a long screwdriver stuck in there eye would make them think twice next time?

shame on the guys who F***** things up for the rest of us . i hope it dont happen again it just spoit things for a lot of people . can we name an shame these idiots???

I'm interested in shipping a number of bikes Dakar -> Europe (possibly enough to send an entire 20' container). Aside from Grimaldi does anyone have recommendations for shipping agents or contacts in Dakar?

Grimaldi Senegal had to pay a custom penalty
of about 30.000.- Euros !!!
They also made a lot of other damage for others in
africa while there are travveling

I know this, because they booked the trip with
Grimaldi-Mafratours and this is my company in germany. Here are all datas about this 2 persons.
