Shipping from New Zealand to where in South America??

Ciao everyone.

I'm on a world tour since 2005 and I'm getting ready for my 4th bike shipment.

The previous have been made by SEA FREIGHT and are all posted on HUBB.

Funny though....

The more I learn about shipments, the less I seem to learn about "where to ship to"

I got some quotation for a SEA FREIGHT from Auckland (where I am now) to either Argentina and Chile.

It will take 40-60 days, but they ask me just 400 Euro.

The only thing I'm not sure about is which, of the south American countries, is the cheapest/better to ship the bike to.

As we all know, rumours about under table money to pay at customers, can be sometimes true.

If you have any advice, I'll be happy to follow it and post this following shipment with my positive/negative experience regardless of the country you suggest me to ship to.

Regards.

The other way up

Ciao Gionata,

Bogota?

PROS: Paperwork straightforward, corruption free, the best South American country ;) Flight hub for Central & South America, (sorry, can't be specific about shipping prices from NZ).

CONS: You might never get any further, as you might be waylaid, (in a nice way), by one of the delightful locals.

Wait a minute....

Colombia? I was planning to start from Terra del Fuego and ride up to Colombia, aiming to Alaska.

Let's say that Chile, Argentina and Uruguay would be the three preferred ones, as I need to ride to Ushuaia, before I even start my Panamerican Tour.

For Chile I've heard is the most developed country in South America and custom clearance, although more expensive, can be more professional.

Argentina could be cheaper, but few other motorcyclist I know, would ship from Italy to there and are supposed to pay 1000 USD in custom fees!

Please Youself!

Haha!

Oh well, Chile or Argentina it is then. I thought you might like to do a lap of SA first.

shipping to chile

Ha Gionata,

We shipped our bikes from Holanda to Valparaiso, Chile this summer. No problems, no corruption, very helpfull. We paid to the agent in Chile 200 US, and at the warehouse for the paperwork 100 US, both for 2 bikes. Dont know if its half for 1 bike.
We can recommend a very nice hostel as well, very friendly to help and bikeparking.
End of August we will ship our bikes back home from Valp.In the warehouse they stored our crates..
Mail us,
Peter & Conny
