Shipping motorcycle from Malaysia to Perth (Australia) by airplane

During my Round The World 2013 , I have to ship the bike from Indonesia to Darwin (Australia).
I found here on HU only one address of a of a forwarding agent between Bali and Darwin: P.T. Khrisna Bali International - JL. Blambangan - 9X Kuta Bali Indonesia

Does anyone have information but also other shippers between Bali and Darwin?
I do not want to fly to Perth: it is too far south to my itinerary

After I saw the difficulties of entering Indonesia with my bike, I changed my program will reach Australia (with airplane) from Malaysia to Perth.

Thanks for the info, but I'm afraid that I can help.
I had already considered the possibility of flying from East Timor to Darwin (indeed, this is the hypothesis that I prefer, because the flight is shorter and because I would like to visit Timor-Leste with my motorcycle), but I was rejected because of the difficulties of reach East Timor from Java-Bali.
In fact I had already planned to go part of the way you indicated (as I posted in the topic of my RTW, especially in this part of Indonesia: map ), by ferry from Sumatra to Java and from Java to Bali.
The problems are after Bali, because even if I take the ferry from Bali to Lombok, then through Sunbawa with some difficulty on the road (remember that I drive a Gold Wing, and even if I crossed the whole of Siberia from west to east with my motorcycle, not I can do wonders on unpaved bad road), ferry to Flores, Flores through many difficulties to Ende (Flores on the streets seem worse Sunbawa), then Ende risk to wait up to a week ferry to Kupang (Timor), because , based on the information I have, the ferry between Ende and Kupang is not "once a day" (as you wrote), but it's only once a week (read here ADVrider - View Single Post - Current schedule for ferries from Flores to West-Timor?).
I can not risk losing a week to wait for a ferry. I do not allow my travel these days. I have 60 days (maximum 80) to go around the world.

Hi we did the trip to ET 4 Month ago, no problem on an Africa Twin. I guess it has been done on a Goldwing several times b4. The roads have been not that bad actually. But now its rain season I guess thats maybe a differnt story.

How you got your bike to Indonesia, via Malaysia???? Would be very keen on the answer because we had a lot of trouble...

From Ende there was no Ferry for some weeks, broken... We wend to Larantuka, 3 boats a week at that time... 18h horrible boatride....

Ok then flying a Goldwing to Darwin it is !

RTW on 80 days, very cool although the airfreight of your bike to Darwin will be expensive. One thing you must do is employ some guys in Bali to detail your bike, Australian customs are very very strict especially on having all the dirt and bugs removed from your bike.

But getting to Larantuka, for me, is even more complicated to get to Ende, why should I go through the whole island of Flores, with the foul ways of which we spoke earlier.
I should add that in November in Indonesia has already begun the rainy season, but I can not get in Indonesia before the month of November, because otherwise would take the monsoon in India, nor do I get there much later, otherwise I would go in the winter in the southern hemisphere (Australia and South America).
But Larantuka the ferry arrives in Kupang or East Timor? Arriving at Kupang, again other problems to get it from there by land in East Timor
In any case, the information that I see (not only here) on the ferries between the islands of Flores to Timor are very reassuring for the times: "From Ende there was no Ferry for some weeks, broken ... We wend to Larantuka, 3 boats a week at that time ... 18h boatride .... horrible. "

The transition from Malaysia to Indonesia should be simple: there is a ferry every day from Melaka to Dumai (Sumatra).
I MUST FIND AN AIRPLANE (MOTORCYCLE) FROM BALI TO DARWIN.

For me it is important to make arrangements with shippers BEFORE I left Italy, I can not risk getting to Bali (or anywhere else for my trip) and did not find what I need, or even just lose two days to find it .
Regarding the cost, I already know it will be expensive. But such a trip not done every year.

Two things, from Kupang to the boarder 5h, from there to Dili it took us 4h, a very nice coastel road, dirt though...

Sorry mate but since March 2012 there is no ferry that takes motorbikes fom anywhere in Malaysia to Indonesia, officially. Period. The ferry you mentioned stopped several years ago... There is one more way but I doubt that you can carry your Goldwing per hand (no crane) on board the ship I know, which took us.

There are sveral threads here in the HUBB where you can have a look, we did 42.000km around but the hardest was the 4h crossing to Indonesia. All boats are not allowed to take any more bikes into Indo. You need the Invitation Letter from IMI, the police letter by the local police "this one is debateable". Friends of us shipped fom KL to Jakarta... they had to pay more then 2000USD bribes to get their bike out of customs.

Go to the HUBB and search for Crossing to Indonesia... and read a bit. Personally I cant imagine a way to Indo with a goldwing. Just because it will not fit in my opinion the narrow step down and through the tiny door of the only boat I know. But on the other hand there are always ways, you just have to find a new one...

l guess the only, or but best way for you could be the shipping from KL to AU. If you are so worried about dirt roads take care in Australia too. Some roads here are worth than what I saw in Indonesia...

I sent from Bali to Perth by air in February -08... but because of aircraft loading door size, the bike had to fly via Melbourne! It was done with Quantas, there was also Garuda Indonesia flying that route, but they claimed their limit per package is only 50kg. I got the feeling they just didn't want anything to do with the whole thing. My freight agent in Bali was CAS Cargo, they're specialised in sending furniture, art and so on, mine was the first bike they'd sent, and it showed. For example, they had the wrong Dangerous goods codes in use, and I told them that when I saw the paper. They still insisted it's correct ,but at the airport it turned out it wasn't, and we had to rush back to their office to redo the papers. In the end the shipping went ok, no problems at all when arriving to Oz (but remember, the bike MUST be 'clean as new', or you get lotsa trouble!)

Not sure if I could recommend CAS Cargo.. But I can check, if I still have some contact info, if you want to ask them.

BTW, as others already pointed out, you have a bigger problem getting the bike from Malaysia to Sumatra, than it might appear on the map. Back in -08, there was the commonly used onion boat route with Cakra Shipping from Penang, but I hear they now help only, when going Indo->Malaysia. There probably will be a way to do it, when you get there. But to know about that solution right now is practically impossible, because the only constant thing around there is change.

Also it is good to keep in mind, that Indonesian customs can become a real show-stopper, so it would be good to be able to use the 'more commonly' used points of entry. That would probably still be Belawan in Sumatra - but will there be transport to go there, I don't know.

What you write worries me enough, especially when you say that there are no ferries from Malaysia to Indonesia. I'll Check, not because I do not trust you, but because (as has been written before) the situation can change often.
Regarding the size of the Gold Wing, although impressive, the Gold Wing is less than 1 meter wide, less than many bikes 'normal' bags and less than many many motorcycle handlebars.
With regard to the dirt, I'm not sure I'm going to try them, but if I find a dirt road I don't turn the bike and go back to Italy. If I have to deal with it, I do.

you got a mail, The thing is just that I could take of my paniers, empty the tank and we had 8 people to carry the bike into the boat. It has been done with several GS 1200 but we all could take off our paniers...

The onion boat doesn´t go anymore and Mr. Lim didnt helped us at all, still a very nice guy though! And the onion boat is still going the other direction, from Malaysia to Indo is no problem at all.

Dont forget do not ship to Jakarta or Dumai, or I guess your Bike will just maybe disapear...

Get in contact with the Goldwing Club in Jakarta, lots of members which can help. To do that its a good idea to get in contact with HTML in Jakarta, look in Facebook for HOnda Tiger Mailing List and ask them... nice guys and they maybe can help you...

As things are really constantly changing it would be nice if you could give an update on how things wend...

Usually the freight companies can send your shipment wherever you want it to go, as long as they can arrange the routing. We were originally going to Darwin, but then heard the rainy season had been real bad in that region, in fact it had been quite wet in Java & Bali, too, so we just asked the same company to re-route to Perth. BTW, it cost us some 1200€ for the bike alone (but as I said, it had to fly via Melbourne).

But so far I have not found anyone who send the bike from Bali to Darwin, not even going from the North Pole.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
