Shipping LA to Lima (Peru)

Hi all,

Just thought I'd share this with you.

Interport in LA have been sorting things out for us, here's what they quoted for sea freight :-

Estimated ocean freight shipping charges

Ocean freight Los Angeles - Callao
2.8 cubic meters @ $ 185.00 = $ 518.00
Pier Pass $ 16.80
Handling charges $ 75.00
Title validation $ 65.00
Messenger service $ 25.00
Total charges $ 699.80

Trust me - you dont want to know the air freight rate !!! Cheaper to ride there !

Actually I do want to know the air-rate if you have it :)

We're a couple of guys who are planning to ship bikes from L.A. to Lima in mid-December as well.

I've been quoted ocean-freight Long Beach to Callao for about $2,500 for a 20" container. Could fit a bunch of bikes in that thing if people got together but I guess scheduling could be a problem.

What about Miami...any experience?

Anyone ever priced flying the bike (and yourself) from Miami to Bogota, or other SA capital ??

Such a short distance (to Bogota or Carracas)....Wonder what it would run to fly.

Containers are a great option for Sea Freight.
What is the transit time from LA to Peru' ?

Cheers,

Patrick:mchappy:

You should probably start a new thread for transport from Miami.

L.A. - Lima transit time is about 2 weeks.

Hey there ImNotLost,
I am interested in sharing the shipping cost with you, I am currently figuring out how to get down south myself, and would be interested in discussing this a little further.

I can't PM yet because I am still a forum Noob. You can e-mail me at

THanks!!:mchappy:

It's unlikely we'll use ocean-shipping due to our schedule. We're working with a couple of FF's for air-quotes.

I can let you know more as the quotes come in. The rate was form Siren Global, time critical logistics.

Sharing a Container Miami to Peru - MARCH 2010

Guys,

I am taking a container form Miami to Lima (Peru). The details can be found at ADVrider.com

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=511157

The cost per bike is $400 to share and around $300 port fees and paperwork on both ports.
My home in Miami as well my agent warehouse is available for storage and preshipping.

Let me know , I have already 4 bikes confirmed . So we are using a 40 foot for people interested. I am handling the process with my agents on both ports. No problem and plenty of confidence.

I've got a quote from LAN Cargo to Air Freight my bike from Miami to Buenos Aires during the week of November 22 for $2490. The wieght was estimated at 700 pounds and the crate size was for a R1150GS. The round trip airfare on the same airline was $903 including tax and fees. A one way ticket was over twice as much, go figure? :mchappy:
