has anyone ever managed to cross the ocean on the same cargo as their bike?

Look for Ro-Ro (Roll-On/Roll-Off) services, preferable not only from GER to USA also from EU to North America in general.

Grimaldi have that service but pretty sure not for bikes

Well they pretty sure do it for bikes to South America.

There are intermittent reports here and elsewhere from people who've brought bikes to South America via Grimaldi. To me, it sounds like a perfect opportunity to catch up on sleep for a week or so, read all the books I've been meaning to read for the next week, then be stupendously bored for the remaining time, which varies.

But that's just me. Javier, you are forever young and full of vitality! Salud!
