Shipping from Ushuaia

When I finish my trip in Ushuaia what are my options for getting the bike back to the USA? I suspect that the air craft are too small to transport my R1200GS. Is it possible to get on a cruise ship passing through and bring the bike along? Any ideas?

Hi Doug

747s fly in ond out of Ushuaia, so airport size isn't a problem. It's also a container port, so sending by sea should be an option. Do a search: there's almost certainly plenty of info. on the site.

I flew my bike from the Rio cargo terminal to chicago. Make sure the crate is solid or it will be delayed when arriving in the usa,

Air Freight from Ushuaia

Michael:

Can you give me an idea of the cost? Was there a hassle at either end with the process? Did you use an agent in Ushuaia? If so who and were you happy with them. What was the process in Chicago?

Thanks for the help.

Doug

Mick:

Did you fly your bike out of Ushuaia? If so, which carrier and to where.

Thanks.

Hi Doug,

we just shipped our bikes from Ushuaia to Europe in a Container. No idea what it may cost to US but the shipping agent of Hamburg-Sued probably can tell:

Agencia Maritima Bernard
Gobernador Godoy 36, Piso 3, Of 15
9410 Ushuaia
phone +54 2901 423 334

A friend checked flight options from Rio Grande and was told 1.400 US$ to Buenos Aires for the bike and himself.

cheers,
Marcus

Hey Doug,

I shipped out of Rio de JAneiro. It was a little bit trickier than it would have been in Spanish, but I got through it. There was a delay in chicago as I had a home made oiler with a little bottle of ATF, the bike tipped in transport and spilled so they delayed it in the states. Also make sure you leave a little bit of gas to escape the cargo terminal. Oh yeah and my battery was dead too. I was a rookie still at that point even though I'd already done the trip. The cost I believe was $800 US.

Hi Doug

Sorry, only just re-visited this thread. I sailed to and from Bs As by Grimaldi.
