Shipping from USA to SE Asia

Hi!

I'm riding RTW and am trying to ship from the USA (Seattle) to Asia. Anyone have any leads or ideas? I'd like to ship to either Thailand or Vietnam. I'm not too picky.

I've requested a couple of quotes from online places but would really like to find a RO-RO service and not have to crate her up.

Any ideas? Thanks!!

I tried searching for recent info here but didn't have any luck. Anyone out there know anyone who's done it recently??

Vietnam seems to remain practically closed for foreign bikes, so I would probably look at shipping elsewhere. Also Indonesia is full of stories, good and bad.

Bangkok seaport had a bad reputation some 2-3 years ago (I dont know, if it has changed). I´ve sent to BKK airport, and that was easy.

Also Kuala Lumpur by air or by sea (to Port Klang) seems to be recommended.

Thanks for the reply.

Good points. Who did you use to ship to BKK?

Trans Air Cargo Co.,Ltd

Try Transaircargo, I used them to fly my bike from Bangkok to Kathmandu a couple of years ago.

I also used Motorcycle Express - Ship Your Bike from Vancouver to Munich, they may also be able to help though they may only go to Europe.

We used a company called Shell Air, but it is located in Chennai, India, so may not be able to help, if you´re sending from the US.

If you´ve got the time, sending by ship could be your cheapest option, as it is quite a long way.

2,5 years ago I´ve sent a DL650 from Sydney to Helsinki by sea for less than 900 USD total, (and that includes the costs at the receiving end, which was over 200 USD - I believe your port handling costs would be less in Asia).

This shipment, however, took 3 weeks more than estimated, so all in all it took just over 2 months to arrive! The container had missed a change of vessel in Singapore and boom - I ended up waiting for 3 more weeks. For me, wasnt a problem, because we were returning home, but it would´ve been different if I was in the middle of a RTW-tour.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
