Shipping from UK to Egypt... again ;)
Thanks for all the posts about options getting vehicles into Egypt, but I am still a bit confused so any answers on some or all of my questions below will be very much appreciated.
I need a backup plan in case the Venice/Alexandria ferry, Libya and Syria situations don’t sort itself out by March/April 2012, which will leave me with having to ship to Alexandria. From the various posts I have gathered:
RORO not advisable because of theft of goods in the vehicle. My Landy is a double cab with a secure canopy on the back. If I can get all my equipment locked in this section of the vehicle (and secure box on the roof rack), would this be sufficient or is theft that bad that locks would be broken to get to equipment?
Does anybody know of an option to ship in container from the UK and does his remove the risks associated with RORO? If there is an option is this normally more expensive and therefore a case for trying to get more than 1 vehicle into a container?
I have read of the bureaucracy/extortionate port fees (official and unofficial) in Alexandria. Any comments on what it cost in total to get a 4x4 through customs? Just a rough total figure to get an idea of what we facing?
