shipping from OZ to NZ

Hi,
we are Anke & Jan on our trip around the world with our two R1100GS. Right now we are travelling OZ and searching how to ship the bikes to NZ around Dez'00.
If somebody has done it already or new how to do it cheaply, please send us a note.
Thank you in advance!!

Freight is easy from OZ to NZ. I can give you some emails of NZ companies. Some ships go straight to Auckland then Christchurch (Port Lyttleton) and then Dunedin (Port Chalmers) but others go straight to Dunedin first. At smaller ports you will be able to store your crate free (Dunedin for example) but at larger ports you will be expected to donate $50 towards the social fund. Costs vary a little but you will be quoted about NZ$200 - but you can double this to cover paper work (allow $1000 return). Two bikes broken down in one crate will be cheaper. I have found International Freight Logistics NZ Ltd <int.frgt.log@xtra.co.nz> to be helpful as well Allied Custom Agents Ltd <aca@allied-customs.co.nz>. See my story of South Island mountain routes at www.horizonsunlimited.com/travellerstories.htm.

Hi
I shipped from Melbourne to Auckland using Tapper Transport (look it up, I'm not at home so don't have card with me).
The boss is a lovely French chap who let me off under sizing the crate and was very helpful.
When in Auckland YOU MUST contact Motorsport Lifestyle (BMW dealers there). Henry Plowright is a top geezer, a mad x-country biker himself and 100% reliable. He'll help you out with a crate on the way back too. Allan is the mechanic there and he is a diamond too (we stayed at his gaff for the weekend in the end!). Be warned though the warehouse will want money off you to leave the broken bits of wood there, but the boss at the warehouse Tapper use is a biker too, so was pretty helpful.
Mail me for more exact details, I also shipped back from NZ to Sydney (nightmare) so could maybe help you out there.
Andy

Sorry for the delay, was in UK to 'unship' bike from Oz, hence no phone nos. etc. Now back in France.
From Melbourne to Auckland I used Draper Parot Int PTY Ltd... Moorabbin, 0061 3 9555 5533. For the R1100GS in a crate (I got mine from BMW Aus)= 500 AUD. I had to do my own clearance in NZ though. In NZ you have to personally visit local agent APC which is right next to Customs (in Auckland it's near the airport 63 Richard Pearse Drive, Mangere, go straight there when you fly in praps) with Bill of lading and carnet. Then go to the MAF (Anzac Ave., city) to arrange inspection. Then trail out to the warehouse with the MAF guy, get all the clearances, hand over 50 NZD to the warehouse, more if you want to uncrate and ride away. If you use Draper Parot, the warehouse is in Onehunga, you can get a bus 'halfway' there!

Coming back from NZ to Oz I used Hemisphere in Kingdon St Newmarket, tel. 095224903. That cost 360 NZD (cheap, eh?) for a 2.5 cubic metre crate. (rate 110nzd per m3)
(Crate from bikeshop - free). The problem was, once in Aus, there was one heluva pallava to get the darned thing free again. The warehouse is right out in Friendship Rd. Port Botany (buses go there, slowly), the customs office is on the same bus line but way back into the city (sorry no address). I spent 3 whole days of toing and froing to get the bike (it was Oz registered anyway!). Finally with all the payments to customs, MinOfAg, warehouse plus busfares etc the whole thing cost around 500AUD.

For shipping agents in Oz, check out the YellowPages.co.au, go to Shipping Cos and agents and punch in the town you want to leave from, et voila! This is what I did, and it worked out OK.

Hope this helps for anyone interested. Please feel free to mail me at
kinghottinger@hotmail.com
or
monikandy@aol.com
for further details.
I also shipped from Darwin to UK.

Regards,
Andy

Get Routed!

No, that really is the name of a company, freighting between Australia and NZ, as well as other countries.

Here's the problem: He'll take your money for a particular deal, then change the rules, and refuse to refund your money.

My take: leave this shipper alone: the name says it al.
