Shipping from Canada to Colombia

I have a friend from Croatia that's traveled north from Argentina to Alaska and is now in Calgary, Canada at my house. His US visa expired and they will not give him another one. He was going to ride to Miami and ship the bike back to Colombia from there. Of course with no US visa, that plan has changed. He's looking for a shipping company from Canada to Colombia... anywhere in SA would do I suppose. He's sent out several emails and made several calls but hasn't had any luck. Any suggestions for shipping?

here's some ideas

Air Canada Cargo is a good start - if not to South America at least to Mexico

LAN airlines also do a lot of cargo runs and fly into Canada

Autoshippers UK car shipping by sea, container, roll on roll off. might be able to help

Wallenius goes from Halifax to EU RORO service

That's all I know

He was hoping to ship by boat and save some cash but beggars can't be choosers I suppose!~

Air Canada Cargo is hit or miss big with pricing. We used them to go from Vancouver to Seoul in 2009 and it was $1600 per bike, Frankfurt to Toronto was $2400 and I called recently for something else and it was $5000 per bike.

Seems to be lots of options to get to Europe but not many to get South.

There must be some option in Canada

I guess spending a few hours on the web searching for --- RORO shipping consolidated motorcyle etc --- from Canada to anywhere - maybe come up with an option.

Air Canada Cargo: $2350 RORO. Mannix (Freight Forwarder), not sure what airline would be shipped on: $2050 requires crating. LCL(?) ocean freight, $1200, 21 days.

It think he'll be going the ocean route.

Not too bad of prices, LCL (less than container load) means that it'll be consolidated into a container along with a bunch of other goods. I would guess that they will require crating as well and given that one doesn't really know what else is going in that container, he will probably want that as well.

As I'm sure he no doubt knows, depending on the country of arrival there are additional port and other fees to receive by sea (and air, although the air ones are more straighforward and typically a lot less) so if possible it would be good to get an idea of what those would be to compare the total cost landed and cleared by sea and by air.

Once done, in many cases the cost differential is small enough that once a person factors in the time to ship and the unpredictability of arrival date, air seems to be more advantageous overall. If a person has more time than money though or is looking forward to relaxing for a month somewhere while the bike is in transit, then ocean is a great option.

Let us know how it goes and what the final landed cost is.

Contact Wallenius, they are RoRo and leave from Halifax to Manzanillo and then have them swap it over to South America Router?
