Shipping from Alexandria

With all due respect, I shipped my car from Alexandria to Rotterdam which was managed by a compony called All Hoda Cargo and it was one big mess. Now I got my car from the port, something is broken, my car was insurred, but now they refuse to pay.

Therefore, I can recommend you: Don't deal with All Hoda Cargo!!

An advise from an ex-overlander.

Hi,

In contrary to other experiences, we have found a very trustworthy company for shipping out of Alexandria which we could definitely recommend to anyone who likes to ship its car/bike in container back home:

Hereby our experience:

In advance, we heard horrifying stories about Egyptian bureaucracy, people, corruption, etc. but we ended up with a company called ' All Trans Int', run by the charming Nermien Manish. She- together with her professional and friendly colleagues - arranged the whole shipping process within 3 days. It even could 've been less of our time, were it not that the Legislative office was on strike so that we had to go to the customs, etc. in person instead of authorizing their representative.

The fee was 4.000 LE (about 400 euros) for our vehicle in a 20ft container , which included all the services on Egyptian side (customs, container handling, transport, express-costs of the stamped carnet back home, etc). As we also shipped our car from Rotterdam to Cape Town we can say that this is a fair price. Of course this fee excludes the shipment of the container itself (400euro) and the costs on the Rotterdam-side (about 600 euros)

Feel free to ask me for more info, or else just contact Nermien Mamish, she speaks excellent English:

It's just so bad

Lived more than 4 years in Egypt until recently, had all ind of miseries dealing with authorities of all kind, happily shipped my stuff out to Europe, including a Land Rover DEFENDER. Got a phone call from the shipping company in Europe hired to extract my personal effects mentioning the idiots from United Trans in Egypt had put the wrong vehicle in the container. Somehow they shipped the LR to Lebanon instead. It took months to get the LR back into a container. I had given up hope and started the insurance claim process when I eventually received a confirmation it was finally coming. In the meantime I had to rent and eventually buy another car, but the forwarder in Europe who had been contracted initially (they picked the partner in Egypt) felt responsible and covered for the rental. Fun fun fun.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
