Train from Istanbul to Tahran

Hi ;

I proudly announce that 10:00 GMT today, i have changed the regulations of train carriage of Turkey.

Before it was not possible to load a bike to international lines such as Istanbul-Tehran Istanbul-Damascus or Tehran-Damascus and vice versa.

But from now on its possible and my motorcycle will be the first to travel from Ankara to Tehran.

I had to take the train due to severe weather conditions in east part of Turkey.

You can look for details in www.tcdd.gov.tr which is also avaliable in english.

Nice trips ,

My route is through to Iran, what did the price work out to be? How bad have the roads
been in Eastern Turkey?

This sounds intresting.
Thank you

Roads of eastern part of Turkey is no worse then the rest of the country. Cant be compared to EU standarts but "ridable". The bad part is that, roads are passing throught high altitudes and those "passages" are cold even in summer.

The prices of carriage is ~ 42 cents/kg. first 30 kg. is exempted and fare is Ankara-Tabriz. 39 Euro and Tahran is 52 Euro.

Can be considered in case of weather conditions or to Europe after a trip to Asia.

Nice trips to all ,

As the moderator of the topic , i should keep people updated about the subject ;

Its possible to load motorcycle to Istanbul -Tehran train but impossible to unload it before Tehran.

Therefore i have to go back to Turkey WITH train and get in from Bazargan (Iran ) again( i got off in Tebriz ).

Funny & irritating but true.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
