Shipping Dili to Darwin - Perkins!? (sorry - same post as in the Australia forum)

Hi,

(Sorry for doubling up the post from the Oz forum here - but we're looking for a quick answer)

We're 4 people/3 bikes and would like to ship from Dili to Darwin end of May. We've had a look at the Perkins site & looked at the schedule. We've also been in touch with Perkins in Australia and asked them about the specifics of when we need to have the bike ready in Dili.
Perkins referred us to their Dili Agent (SDV), whom we contacted but for over 1 week now (2 emails from us), we haven't heard back from them.

Problem is: Dili is expensive for accomodation so we'd like to get there as late as possible.

Has anyone got experience with SDV in Dili? Maybe a telephone number from them?
How long prior to the scheduled sailing does the bike have to be ready?
Is it safe/possible to crate the bike and leave it with SDV/Perkins for a few days (so we could fly to Australia before the bikes leave Dili)?

Cheers!
Bjorn

We stayed at one of the backpackers mentioned in the Lonely Planet and the price was ok (something like 5 US p.P)

Dili is definetly cheaper than Darwin... so rather wait till your bike is shipped. The compound in Dili is guarded and you will put the bike in the container yourself anyway (from what I heard from friends). So I don't se a problem there.

Enjoy East Timor, it's a beautiful place!

SDV is not dealing with bikes anymore. I spoke to manager in person when was there in Dec 2011, he confirmed it and said: not because too many problems with australian customs.

There is also no plane or any other boat, the only option is Perkins's Ship managed in Dili by Toll Logistic from their plaza.

Don't look for other option, waste of time, just go there and talk.
