Smile Air freight agent for Bike sent to Turkey - advise

We are air freighting 2 motorbikes in March to Turkey from south africa. I have rates and all from South Africa, but they do not have a great option on freight agent in Turkey/istanbul. Can anyone advise on this, and a company that they had good experience with.

The second part is that nobody has a decisive answer on whether a carnet is needed or not. turkey is not an Carnet country , yet the one agent reckons it is a penalty to pay if no carnet is presented.

No carnet needed for Turkey. I've been there two times, last visit was in Oct 2023. It shouldn't make a difference in regards to nationality.

BUT: Upon entry the vehicle is noted in your passport. So that might be the reason why the freight forwarder believes that a carnet is necessary.

Turkish Airlines flies widebodies directly between Istanbul and Johannesburg or Cape Town.

https://www.turkishcargo.com/en/netw...on-information has contacts for their local ground handling agents - start by contacting them.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
