shipping costs ?

Hi

we are in the early stage of planning our next trip and trying to figure out how much we have to pay for the transport (preferable flying) for 2 bikes for the following route.
My guessing per bike is all incl. ....

South Africa -> New Zealand US $ 1500.-
New Zealand -> Australia US $ 1000.-
Australia (Darwin) -> East Timor US $ 350.-
Thailand or Malaysia -> Nepal US $ 750.-

So, what do you think ? Is this realistic or do I underestimate the costs.
The crates are of course not included.

In the past we shipped our bikes per seafreight (never airfreight) and the costs were more or less always the same (Euro 600.- to 700.- all incl. per bike)

Any tips, tricks and suggestions are welcome

Thanks and happy trails
Thomas & Andrea

Shipping

Hey guys,

Wel, i should check the shipping page on the site. Seems to me that your prices are on the high side. The last shipment i did was in 2006 from Auckland, New Zealand to Bercelona,Spain. Costed me all incl. 340 Euros. Can't really remember exactly but thought the one from Oz to NZ was about 200Euros. I posted all my shippings on the site, so you can find them there. Have to say that i went in the other direction though.
Hope it helps a little!

Cheers, Bossit. :-)

Hey!

We're planning Auckland-Sydney beginnig next year and the price we got is higher. You're looking at 1200 Eu per bike for shipping by air......

In May 2007 we shipped from Capetown to Perth by sea and shared the container. Cost all incl. for 2 Bikes 1300 Eu

Regards

Werner

I haven't been able to find a way to make the shipping pages useful. Prices with which I'm familiar are woefully low, and when I tried to post my firsthand experiences to and from Europe my painstakingly-composed report vanished into the ether forever. I emailed Grant to ask about it, and he said, in essence, don't hold your breath waiting for a fix.

In any case, I'd not base any budgeting on old information. Shipping along the routes I've used or contemplated has at least doubled since most of what I see posted from a few years back.

Hope that's helpful.

Mark

In essence, you were absolutely right - BUT we're only a week or two at most away from having it all working with all shipments to date in and available. It's been long and painful, but we're almost there, with a ton of invisible infrastructure stuff now virtually done. We'll be on with the good stuff on top - the icing - momentarily, and over the next few months lots more coming.

thanks for your patience everyone, we're going as fast as possible!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
