Shipping cost : USA to UK

Hi

Can anyone advise of shipping costs from USA to UK?

I am looking for the cheapest option - time is not an issue.

Thanks, Lee.

PS: I have so far got two quotes around the $1500 mark which seems a lot to me (JFK -> LHR by plane) ... they also tell me that air is no more expensive than by boat???

Sorry this is not an answer, rather a similar question to the one above...

I'm looking to ship a bike from the west coast (LA most likely), or by air form Las Vegas possibly...

I understand their is a shipping line that is essentially a RoRo ferry from LA to the UK... A friend of mine is currently using it to get his Land Rover to and from the west coast - I need to check the details when he gets back in a couple of weeks, but I think he said it was around £400 each way (for a car that is) and takes about 3 weeks...

I'm planning on buying a bike in the US and using it for a few weeks before bringing it back to the UK - so does anyone out there have any names/details of shipping companies who could help with getting a bike from LA to either UK direct, or else mainland Europe/Eire? Sea or air - speed is not necessarily important, rather cost is x

Can I tell you, post 9-11 shipping out of the US(specifically air cargo) is a pain in the arse, due to the new regulations. As a result, the cost difference between boat and air is negligible but the time difference may not be.

If you can, drive the bike to Canada and ship with a freight forwarder there. Otherwise if you choose to ship by air, go with Hellmans, ShipMyBike.com, Motorcycle Express, or RoyalAirMaroc...

The "extra" money you may spend with a reputable freight forwarder will save you in the potential lost time of your trip. I lost one month because I went with Lynden initially and switched to RoyalAirMaroc halfway through. RAM can get it to London for you.

HTH...

Thanks Edde - would I be right in thinking RAM are Moroccan? - if so, I presume they fly direct to Morocco too, which would be great as I plan to head over there towards the end of the year...

Yes...RAM=Royal Air Maroc...talk to Vince Chabrol.

When sending by ship, make sure you understand what the TOTAL charges are...customs clearance, port handling fees to load and unload, etc. Same goes for air...
The beauty about shipping to Maroc when beginning your Africa trip is the lack of hassle or corruption...but that all changes when you hit Mauritania...
Tunisia is another good option for similar reasons...but not Egypt.

Edde... I am from Canada and I am looking into the cheapest way to get my bike over to Europe, since you mentioned... do you know who does this from here... I will ride anywhere in Canada to get the bike shipped as long as I can save some bucks on shipping and spend those on riding...

I import Land Rover parts from the Uk to NY and via boat, much cheaper than plane.

Give me the details and I'll get you a quote.
