Shipping from Cape Town to Buenos Aires remotely!

Hello one hello all,

During the summer of 2008, I and a couple of friends - inspired by the writings on this website - hopped on our KLR 650s and set off from London in the direction of Cape Town (see Home for details). We arrived (more or less) on time and in one piece, but rather than ship our bikes back home, we decided to leave them in South Africa so that we could return for another adventure and then ship them to a nearby continent.

It's now been 6 months since the adventure and I'm starting to think about my next big trip (Buenos Aires to Vancouver in Feb-May 2010). A couple of logistical challenges present themselves though and I was wondering if the wisened members of the HU community could offer some advice.

Here's the situation. My bike is currently in Johannesburg and I need to get it to Buenos Aires for February 2010. I plan on returning to Johannesburg at some point this year for a bit more riding and to arrange shipping.

Either I:
a) go to Johannesburg in May 2009, ride about a bit, then put the bike on a boat/plane for Buenos Aires and hope some friendly Argentinian can clear customs for me and store it for a few months.
b) I go to Johannesburg in November, ride about a bit, then put it on a slow (very slow) boat, which arrives in Buenos Aires in time for me to pick it up in BA myself.
c) I go to Johannesburg, ride about a bit and leave the bike there. Then I return to Johannesburg on my way to Buenos Aires and fly with the bike to BA.

Key constraints here are time - I'll only have three months off to do my BA to Vancouver trip - and money (extra flights equal extra cash).

Option C would seem the most easy to organise on my own, but would be most costly in terms of time and cash. Option B requires there to be a slow boat from South Africa to BA and runs the risk of my bike not being there when I arrive. Option A requires a lot of friendly Argentinians help.

So I guess what I need to know from you lot is - has anyone had experience of doing anything like this i.e. remote shipping. And if so, what do people recommend? And related to that, are there any super-friendly Argentinian's out there?

Thanks.
