Shipping a Broken Bike back to California

A few weeks ago I bought a DR650 in Santiago and a couple of days ago part of the engine case cracked. It might be too expensive to repair here, and in its current condition may have a negliable resale value. If I can ship it by sea from valpariso back to California for a resonable price, I can then either fix it back home or sell it off for parts on Ebay

Any advice on my thinking would be appreciated, cheers

If this is going to put an end to your trip can you not buy or get an entire second hand engine sent out to you, fit it and carry on?

I could but after looking on Ebay, a new (used) engine would cost more than 1000 shipped in the USA, and then there is the cost to ship it down to Chile, plus the paperwork nightmare if I try to seel it again. It would be cheaper just to buy another motorcycle

were is the crack and how bad ? could you put a photo on ? you may be able to fix/ bodje it and carry on the trip

The "crack" is the common problem of the Boss breaking that holds the one of the starter gears. The motorcycle runs great, just the only way to start it is too push it and pop the clutch. I have looked into welding it, but have gotten mixed opions on that one, and if I don't change the internal components it will just crack again

cheers
