Shipping bikes to Los Angeles to Lima, Peru

I'd like to speak to someone who has actually shipped a motorcycle from Los Angeles to Lima, Peru by air. Please PM me if you've actually done this.

Los Angels to Lima

I am in the process of Air Freighting my R1150GS Adventure to Lima from California as I write this email. Just to let you know, the company that I am working with is called BDP International and after a review of all of the paperwork requirements and the cost of air freight we decided that the cheapest and best way to ship was to have the bike crated in Ca. and trucked to Miami where they will put in on a plane to Lima. The person I am working with in Miami (Patricia Cadena) is handling the customs paperwork etc. BDP International also has an office in Los Angels right next to LAX. BDP international has picked up my bike at the crating company and it is on the truck right now. It should arrive in Miami in a couple of days. My wife and I are flying to Lima on Oct. 23 and BDP is planning on putting the bike on a plane on Oct. 22. That way it will arrive at almost the same time we do. They did not want it to arrive to early as they will charge for storage and the longer it sits the more likely there will be problems.

After we pick up the bike we are planning on 9 weeks heading south through Peru, Boliva and back and forth throught Chile and Argentina. We will end up in Ushuaia and ship the bike back from there or ride to Buenos Aires and ship it back from there.

Drop me a line if you want more info.

shipping to South America

Well it seems like you came up with the same end result as I did. I tried for several months to find a way to ship to Santiago Chile and finally just said heck with it and will crate my bike up in Minnesota and load it in my pick up and drive to Miami. The cost of the air tickets for my wife and I to fly to Santiago Chile from Miami were a big savings. I still have to put it all to gether once I get to Miami but feel that I should be able to get that done once I am there. I do have a quote from the same shipper but feel that I will be able to get it for less if I am there. Heading there on Jan 1 2008.
