Hi
I´m in Rio at the moment and was hoping to ship my bike back to Europe from Sao Paulo. This is the reply I got from the shipping agent:

"Brazilian Customs at the airport can arrange process but isn´t quickly
like you entered. so first broker need to start a process that can delay
two weeks because customs need to ask to Customs in Iguaçu sent all
documents that you entered, I know that you have copy but they need legal
documents.

So, this moto need to be in pallet. You will need to issue a Dangerous
Goods Declaration without this document Airline will not accept you moto.
Broker will need all your documents and documents from your moto copy with
a stamp of consultate.here in Brazil.

Costs for Customs will be around US$ 600,00"

I´ve decided to ride back to Buenos Aires and ship from there instead.

David

I'm having problems in Rio

Yeah man it's really hard here, and expensive. I've contacted dozens and dozens of companies, and most won't even touch this. The ones that will are saying minimum $2500 to ship to US. I just don't feel like riding back to Buenos Aires! Let me know if you find a good company and I'll do the same.

hey David

I'm waiting on quotes from about 4 more agents, and then I'll be headed south. Are you still in Rio? How long are you planning on taking to get to BA?

air freight to Miami

Got a decent price- $1700 crated to Miami from Rio.
Company is called Cargo Clan
fivestarscargas.com

They use Air Tam and have the lowest per weight volume charge in the game. Plus, daily flights to Miami. I'm about to drop off the bike today and it leaves tomorrow.

I also spoke directly to US Air cargo, who inform me, contrary to what every agent in town says, you don't need a box, and strapped to a pallet is fine. There's scam going around with the agents where they tell you you need a box made with special wood that's bug-resistant, and they can't build it at the airport so you need to pay to ship it- totaling USD$700.

I highly recommend anyone considering this to just go straight to the airport cargo terminal and talk to people there in person.

I got real tired of dealing with the agents on the phone, and finally went to the airport and quickly found a reasonably priced solution at Cargo Clan/Five Stars. I packed the bike that day and the next day came to do the customs work and found TAM airlines had decided not to take my bike at all. They're all pussed out about the danger factor. Anyhow, my main man Iedo from Continental, who'd given me information earlier in the week and with whom I'd been correspoding with, but could not do business with since I'm not a company, hooked it up at Continental with Five Stars/Cargo Clan. I shipped my bike to LAX for exactly $1700. The bike flew to Houston, then took a truck to LAX where I picked it up without too much trouble.
