Back in 2008 i shipped from Tokyo to Brisbane with Home-Kiwicar.com for around the same amount you mentioned. Just make sure you lock your panniers on your bike, some small things went missing (i have ortliebs..)

For customs clearance in Brisbane you need an agent (through kiwicar) to represent you at the docks but the carnet I did myself at customs office.

The best shipping agent in Australia is Stewart Garmey. He is very experienced and above all is honest. Last trip I used Mr Takahashi in Tokyo to ship my bike to Sydney, it ended up costing $5,800 AUD. A bloody rip off!! Since then I have sent 2 bikes to Germany and this year we took 8 bikes to Vladivostok. Stewarts help and advice were first class. This is not a paid add, I am only a very satisfied customer. His details are:

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
