Hi All

Shipping Australia to Argentina or Chile

We're looking to ship our vehicle from Australia to either Argentina or Chile early next year via whichever route is quickest and cheapest.

We were wondering if anyone had any shipping contacts, and whether anyone would be interested in sharing a container?

What time next year?
 

What time next year are you looking at shipping? A friend and I are looking at heading to South America end of 2012 start of 2013.

We're looking to leave Australia before September 2012.

Our Carnet runs out then.

My fiance and I were planning on leaving for South America around the same time (last days of November / early December).

Do you have any advice as far as shipping or flying from Sydney goes - I am in the same situation as the op where I am contemplating whether to start in Chile or Argentina....

My wife & I are going from Sth. Africa to Sth. America in Jan 2013, my research has discovered Malaysian Airlines are the cheapest to fly there. Now I know that they fly from OZ as well so maybe worth an enquiry.

Anyone find any reasonable shipping prices from Aus to Chile or Argentina? Possibly share a container sometime during 2013 might be an option - probably later rather than earlier.

i made the same request for info about 2 months ago and i was contacted by villakunterbunt in valparaiso chile.shipping looks to be cheaper but i am not totally convinced yet re SA and shipping from oz.
bikes abroad gave me a rough estimate for $2300 to santiago for my battlestar(gsa 1200) to fly it from melb or sydney.i know they fly direct to chile from sydney now (as with benard and kathy they sometimes used to offload the bike in NZ and you are sit waiting in santiago for some expensive days).so malaysia or lan or qantas.bike goes uncrated and just strapped on a pallet.
i am looking at the early part of next year before i get clear of the 'normality' traps.if it works out too problematic and expensive i will re trace my steps and just fly to LA with qantas again.(that cost me 1650 bucks plus the dang goods i think was 125 and to release it in La was 30 us $ easy as it could ever be).

( plus fyi and apologies for this if you already know- no carnet needed for any of the americas although the australian customs will try and tell you its required its just they have not got with the programme yet.oh and get your re importation permit(oz bikes) before you go although i managed to get it whilst in europe only took me 2 years):thumbup1:

Looking at an early 2013 departure - oz, eastern seaboard prefer Brisbane to hopefully peru but flexible. Where to start and who to contact? Have sent our some requests but no love to date. Anyone found options/contacts? Any help appreciated. Cheers.

We ended up shipping our bikes from Adelaide to Valpo with the guy's from Villa Kunterbunt. The cost was 2400US all incl. for a crate with 2 old BMW GS model's. (4.2 cbm and nearly 700Kg)
We were hoping to fly Sydney/Santiago but with the cheapest offer 8000US that was just ridiculus expensive.

Shipping time was nearly 2 month. Didn't bother us ..had more bikes in Alice anyway :innocent:.
I really recomend Valpo instead of Buenos Aires as the Custom procedure in BA is expensive and bloody anoying...

Just got a couple of quotes back, Brisbane to Callao, Peru. Price varies between $1450 and $1800 with what looks like regular timings. Question is the destination charges. They are not included and I have heard that often they can get out of control to the point that flying is the cheaper option. Any suggestions on getting firm quotes on destination fees or any contacts in that part of the world that can be suggested?
We are looking at early 2013 take off.

I'am not so sure about shipping to Peru....try Valpo it's customwise a easy option!!

Peter from BikesAbroad has so far been great. Shipment in question is a weekly and takes around 48 days with a transshipment in Bussan.

Anyone got any futher info on this route or info on arriving shipments in Peru?

I think it is better to go to Chile than Argentina.
Sensible people and 'normal' rules at customs. Argentina is different, non-transparent and they are very difficult on import taxes etc.
Plus, there is an agent in BA of whom I don't hear a lot of positive feedback and who ripped us off.
I did hear nice feedback from a guy who flew his bike to Ecuador. no money, and 45 minutes after arriving at the airport his bike was through customs and ready to hit the road!

Shipping from Brisbane to Peru or Chile

I am shipping my bike to South America from Brisbane for it to arrive there mid to late April. I am currently trying to decide whether to go to Lima or Valparaiso. I am dealing with a freight agent in Brisbane that I used to get the bike to Egypt in 2011. They are trying to give me the costs up front to pay here in Australia otherwise you basically have no idea what the final cost will be either clearing in or shipping it back (if that is what you want to do). Shipping will take something around 50 days with shipments leaving each week. I have heard some dodgy stuff about Lima and they are insisting I arrange for my own translator. They also say that if the bike is left for more than 10 days they will confiscate it which is not so good. Valparaiso is looking easier but possible more expensive. I will be travelling on a carnet but am still looking at $1800 DDU for all the import costs, customer etc.. The freight itself is only about $300 but it's all the other costs that see to add up. I can let you know my quotes more exactly if you are interested and also my freight agent who do seem pretty good.

i shipped my KLR from melbourne to BA last year. I chose sea over air as it is cheaper. It was very efficient. The bike arrived on time and all up it cost, including all sorts of charges in BA about $2000. Actually it was cheaper to send my bike to BA than to return it to melbourne from LA by sea!

The Customs is a bit of a pain but quite easy. Be patient and it helps to Speak a bit of Spanish

I think for reasonable shipping prices, you can search on Google. There are many shipping companies, from which you can choose the best.
