shipping/airfright from UAE Dubai or Abu Dabi to India

hi everyone,

i like to go from europe to inda through the iran, but the actual pakistan situation is not the best to go through. i also heard, that it´s not able to get a visa for pakistan in the moment?
this is the reason why i´m searching for another solution.
my contingency plan is, going from iran to the United Arab Emirates with the valfajr8 ferry and from there to india by airfreight. (so i´m also able to visit duabai ;))

do somebody have experience in shipping from the UAE?
or any other way, how to get from iran to india whithout crossing pakistan?
what are your actual plans to get from iran to india?

thanks
and salud, bunda

the solution: the cargo village near the Dubai airport
there are all shippers, agents and packers located in one building complex!

dubai is a verry easy airport for cargo, only go to "cargo city" at the airport. there is all plenty of shippers and packers...

You could also ship by container to Nhava Sheva, close to Mumbai. Then you fly from Shiraz to Mumbai for $145.
There are plenty of boat going from Bandar Abas to Nhava Sheva.

Thanks for this

Hi fellas -- thanks for this.

I'm in Dubai right now, just twiddling my thumbs here and getting nowhere with the local shipping options. As it stands right now, I'm looking at air freight to India.

However, what I'd *really* like to do is take a dhow to anywhere on India's west coast. I can't seem to find any concrete information on the boards here about that, although it sounds like it's been done. People here in Dubai seem to think it's possible, and that I should just head down to the port and start asking around. And maybe take a Hindi-speaker with me.

So: does anybody know anything specific about the dhow option? Which port would it be likely to sail from? Which cities in India are common for boats from Dubai? And around how much would it cost to get myself and my bike over there?

Cheers!

Hi Jim,

I would not recommend taking a dhow but if you really insist, then I would also advise to go to the Dhow Wharfage and talk to the people there. Hardly anybody speaks English there so yes, take a Hindi speaker with you.

What I am also not so sure about is importing your bike into India through a port. That might still be a big problem. It is not easy to import stuff into India.

If you want a dhow, go in the evening at the port in the old city. You will have to choose one of the bigger one, as they are there for the long trips. You should be able to find one easily. These dhows go as far as somalia and take light trucks.
For the import, I assume you have a carnet. I read somewhere that only few ports (the biggest) in India have the knowledge necessary to deal with it. Mumbai does, but not sure if dhows go there.
I assume the trip would take a week or so, which can be a long time on one of these boats...
