Shipping bikes from Venezuela or Guiana to France

Our plans have changed and we are now trying to locate a sea transport from northern South America (preferably British Guiana or Venezuela) to France. I haven't seen a posting for this. Any help out there?

You might have more luck riding across Suriname into French Guiana.

Its effectively the same country as France so that makes things easier, and as *everything* in F.Guiana is imported from France there must be lots of empty ships heading that way.

thank you. we had thought about that, but really wanted to see the British Guianan rain forest and maybe even double back down. no definite plans yet because there is just so much to see. we cut off heading for England because we have been there often. still want to see scotland though, so we are torn between beginning the european leg in france or england and then ride up through scotland. still have time though. just a note that i need to add. i broke in the suzuki 650 burgman scooter and am pleased to note that it rides about as nicely as an easy chair. have begun to equip it. planning the trip is just about as fun as we think making it will be.

You'd see the Guyanan rain forest on the way, there's only one road to British Guyana going in that direction (Linden to Georgetown), then you ride around the coast through Suriname to French Guiana.

Be careful on the road from Linden, when its raining the jungle reclaims it & the only thing that stands a chance of getting through are the 4x4 Bedford trucks, often linked together as a train so they can push/pull each other through the squelch. The locals also call it 'Marbara Road' or 'Bandit Road', you get the idea.

'Casi Guesthouse' in Linden is a good place to stay, in Georgetown there's the 'Alpha Guesthouse' on Short Street.

Check for prices etc for shipping from F.Guiana to France before you decide, its either subsidised so cheap or stupidly expensive like everything else there.

Try Laparkan in Georgetown Guyana, they do lots of shippment to Miami and may have a lead for you. I
checked the internet and I believe they are your best bet. Good luck

It's a bit late for the OP, unless he's still wandering around the rain forest looking for shipping agents after 5 years. Even the chained-up Bedford trucks are gone from the Lethem road. Sure would be nice if people who come on here looking for information and advice returned later on to let us know how it all turned out....and to add to the information available for others to use.

hi mark were are you now ? yes still planning on going back to Suriname if i ever get my bike back together in time .I might go back to that joinery job. I have till may on my return flight . it was 495 euro to get my bike to holland and they said it should be the same again the other way . nice right up you did on the guyanas mark . from what i was told in georgetown all the shipping from guyana goes via miami on the way to europe.

Yeah, I was prepared to ship my bike home at any point given the rear shock issue I had at the time, and Georgetown looked like an obvious, easy possibility to the States....but in the end I limped along for 5000 miles all the way to Guatemala, where I finally found a replacement. Then I rode home via some bits of Canada. KLR has 94,000 miles on it, and is complaining about every last one of them.

I'm two weeks into my new job, which took a couple of months to find in the current economy. I'll be back to West Africa briefly in the fall, but aside from that I'm in rebuild-the-bank-account mode for a while.
