Shipping a bike to Athens

Has anyone any experience of shipping a bike into Athens?

Looking at doing this as an alternative to shipping in to Italy.

Immediate problems i can forsee are language and understanding Cyrillic text, rather than Latin based text etc.

At least with Italian i could read text and have a go at pronouncing it, but not Greek!

Any advice apreciated.

That's not Cyrillic.

You may be clear where you're coming from and how you're planning to ship your bike (sea, air, truck, wagon, sled).....but I'm sure not. You might draw some helpful responses if you filled in a few details. For example, most people shipping by air seem to choose Germany, not Greece or Italy.

Sorry I've got nothing further to offer.

We got a ferry into Athens, no problems other than no working clutch :eek3:, lots of signs are in English.

+1, Greek is not Cyrillic, but Bulgarian is...

And if you're an engineer as your profile says you will already know half of the Greek alphabet, Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta...

Don't know about shipping to Greece but I'm sure it's possible. Have you checked the shipping section of horizons for people who have posted such details?

I shipped my bike with Salamis Shipping Lines from Haifa to Lavrio (approx 40kms from Athens) last month. I waited for the ship to moor, rode my bike off, parked at the shipping agents office, walked the 300m to the customs office. If I had insurance, the bike would have been cleared in 30 mins. Customs in Lavrio could only issue a 3 day permit but directed me to customs in Pireas for an extension. The customs officer in Pireas gave me a slice of cake (some party going on bier) and issued the extension within 15 minutes.
The Greeks are friendly and helpful, and the system is simple. Most of them also speak English
Hope this helps. Cheers
Ps. Keep you eye on the rearview mirror for those scooters ………the Greeks are maniacs on those things :scooter:

Shipping means on a ship. If i was air freighting i would say "air freighting"

Mike, you won't make any friends sitting flapping around a BE title here on the HUBB. :nono:

Probably people like people that do some research of their own before posting... it's easy to confuse cyrillic and greek... but don't go advertising that when you arrive in Athens! doh

Did you check the shipping section for recent shipping details?

OP, I post whatever I've got that I think might help someone out. Apparently you disagree about what sort of help you need. Doesn't bother me; you're the one who's asking questions and wishing someone would answer.

Good luck.
