South America to Australia

Hi, need some advise from you guys.

I need to ship my bike from any country in South America to the Eastern side of Australia, possibly Melbourne. It would be nice to ship from Chile. My question is from wich port/country would it be the cheapest. The consideration is not just the freight for the bike, but also two plane tickets for my wife and me.
Please let me know any contact to get a quote for the freight of the bike, especially if you have made this cross-over from SA to Oz.

Thanks

Johan

Hi Johan, did anyone send you info about this? We will be doing roughly the same shipping in about 18 months time and I'd love to know how much we should set aside!
Cheers,
Tam

I have no personal experience with LAN, a Chilean arline:

Lan Cargo

but I have heard good things about them.

So Far no luck with shipping information or quotes. Will keep you posted what we can come up with. We will be shipping somewhere in July this year.

From Valpo is easy!

Hey Johan,
We shipped our bikes from Brisbane to Valparaiso and have just crated up my girlfriends bike in Valparaiso again to send it back. I highly reccommend you contact Enzo and Martina (details in previous post) from Villa Kunterbunt. They can get a quote for you. They do charge a little to help you, but they make things so easy for you.

It would be doable without them, but unless your Spanish (or more precisely Chileno) is up to scratch you're going to waste a bit of time clearing the bikes in Chile.

We shipped the bikes over independantly, but I would definitely not reccomend the company we used.

good luck & enjoy the trip!

How much did you pay for the shipping? I'm still waiting for a quote from those people. I'm shipping in July, and were told it is too long in advance to give a quote? At this stage I have no clue how much to budget. I also think I might rather airfreight the bike, as I cannot wait 45 days to get the bike in Melbourne, will cost me more to hang around that long on either side. Anyone with some air freight contacts? Chile, Argintina or Brazil.

Did you get anywhere with this?

Hey I am on my way to Valpo to ship out to New Zealand myself around the start of May. Did you learn anything more?

Cheers

Rich
