Ferries or fishing boats to Greenland?

Hi,
I'm a longtime lurker, first time poster..
I want to plan a trip from New Jersey, USA to Greenland this summer. I'd like to ride as far north into Canada as I can and find the nearest land to land point and hopscotch over to Greenland. Then I'd like to ride as far north into G.L. as I can from there, depending on gasoline availability. My question is; are there any ferries that go from either Newfoundland or Baffin Island to G.L.? If not, would there be someway I could pay off a fishing boat or freighter that would be going that way to take me and my bike. I'd even offer to pay and work on the boat for the ride over. I'd like to make the trip as adventurous as possible, and just sort of make my way up ther "by hook or by crook". I was wondering if any body has tried this method to get across the water from point A to B anywhere in the area, or anywhere else for that matter.
Thanks for any and all replies
Wally

Smile

I`ve been in Greenland 13 years ago as an exchange student, it was the best experience in my life. In that time many towns had no airport and certainly there where no roads connecting towns, so the only way to travel was by helicopter because the sea was frozen during winter no ship will sail (i was in Assiat, near Disco Island). in the south part ships and vessels work will all year round. I do´t think the situation changed a lot,so riding a bike it´s almost impossible, besides , they where prohibited by law in that time, don´t know why.
good luck with your plans.
Erik.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
