need to ship bikes from Panama to Columbia

Has anyone recently shipped bikes from Panama City to Columbia recently? We are currently in David, Panama and have not been able to get ahold of Girag who we had planned on shipping with. Who else have people used?
Our destination is Tierra del Fuego after taking a ride out the Darien as far as we can go and then ship to Columbia and we would like to go to Turbo before heading south again. We thought about having the bikes shipped to Cartagena as it would be just north of Turbo and would not have to back track. Has anyone ridden in this area and do we need to be concerned about safety?

If you want to get as far as T del F I would read up on your route, unless you want to backtrack. Whichever way you go ride safe.

How about the Steelrat?!

Hi there
I'm not sure which ship you have planned to take but... How about the Steelrat www.stahlratte.org: Logbuch ?I think it is the very best way to ship over and a great sailingtrip as well.

I don't know any other ships there but to fly over is almost hazzlefree but a little bit expensive as well..

Good luck

Glenn

Dealing with Girag was pretty easy. Show up at their warehouse/office, behind the airport a bit and depending on space, the bike could leave the next day. That's what we did. Girag completes all the paperwork. All we did was shrink wrapped bike gear to the bike.

wild card

Hi, we used the yacht Wild card jack, he has a face book page, great crossing and captain John knows what he,s doing.
As far as safety goes Columbia is as safe as anywhere in South america, we travelled all over for 4 months and never felt threatened, nice people, great country.
Usual rules apply, don,t do anything you wouldn,t do at home hehehe.
I put wild card details on biker friendly here on horizons
Enjoy your travels
Pete

Hi Pete, If you had said Colombia I would have agreed wholeheartedly with your description of it and its peoples. Columbia though is a place somewhere in the north west of the US of A which we all know is full of drug addicts with guns. (allegedly) Ride safe.

I flew my DR over from Panama to Bogota with Girag in early January and can attest to BlackBeast's statement. Girag is easy to deal with but almost impossible to get ahold of by phone or email. Just show up at their office. Oh yeah, bring your bike and $902 USD with you.

I then got a flight for myself with Copa for $450 USD, one-way. Yup, $1352 USD is a pretty dear price for a little over an hour flying time for bike and rider. Friends took a boat across and it wasn't what they'd hoped. Rough seas at this time of year.

The freight and passenger airlines have us between a rock and a hard place if we want to get across the GAP, which of course we do.

Good luck! You're going to LUV Colombia.

I used Cap'n Marco's boat about two years ago and enjoyed very much. Would do it again.
