Trasport from Jordan to Africa (But NOT Egypt!)

Hey everyone. Well, after waiting nearly two weeks in Istanbul for an Iranian visa that may never come, I've got the itch to ride again. I'm giving up (for now) on Iran and heading south. That means, Syria, (Lebanon, perhaps... any opinions on security in the region?) and Jordan. I'd like to continue from Jordan into Africa, but my carnet does not cover Egypt (I was lead to believe it would be too expensive and full of hassles!)

So, my question is this: what options do I have (preferably via ferry) from Jordan into Africa? I'd also consider Yemen, I suppose, but then I dead-end in UAE.

Alternately, if I can't find shipping into Africa from Jordan, could I ship from Israel into, say, Morocco?

What about...

Isn't there still a ferry from Jeddah in Saudi Arabia to Port Sudan?
I'm not saying it's an easy option, but it is an option.

No way you'll find anything going from Israel to Morocco. However, Zim, the Israeli shipping company has frequent ships going out to Djibouti, Dar Es Salaam or SA. You can see their schedule at Zim Integrated Shipping Services . They also have ships coming in to Israel from Turkey so you might do it in one shot.

If you're right about shipping from Israel to Djibouti, or Ethiopia, you just made me a happy camper. I'll do some looking into it!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
