Need a shipping from malaysia to Indonesia

Hello,

after the (for years working) Shipping-Connection from Penang to Medan with the Onion Boat of Mr. Lim is NOT running anymore since April 2012, coz the Authorities in Port Belwan (Indonesia) do not allow anymore to unload Bikes from Mr. Lims Boat, we are searching for other Options to go to Indonesia.

IF anybody has some Contacts that can help us: Agents, Shipping Companies or Traveler who did is with another way or even heard from other an option, please let us know.

PS: we tried already the option from port klang with the passenger ferry. but didnt worked out coz of broken down ferry. so we searching for alternatives.

Dont ask, why the authorities in belawan not allow anymore to unload bikes. I guess they Authorities are pissed of, of something.

It probably of no use but in 2008, i shipped Medan to Penang!!!! I think mr lim helped out then from his penang office...do a hubb search coz a few of us where doing the same thing and passing the details along....

If i remember correctly shipping to Belawan will mean problems getting in as the indonesian cuctoms there want some sort of letter to say u have permission to ride. Stick at it Indonesia is a highlight...bloody great place..

Sorry i cant help more good luck

Try Aseantex

Hi guys,

You might want to try a company called Aseantex . It is owned by two brothers (Abul and Assir 1$). Very helpfull blokes and they do a lot of overlanders (bikes and trucks).

Their office is located in Port Klang.

Cheers,
Don

Don - do you know if these two guys have ever helped with shipping a bike in the opposite direction; that is from Sumatra (any port) across to Malaysia, again via any entry point? I ask because I'll be facing this issue in a couple of months' time.

Thanks

At least 4 years ago entering my Finnish-regoed bike using mr. Lim´s onion boat was a breeze... took probably 10 minutes with the customs (we had the carnet), and after all the horror stories I´d heard, I remember thinking ´wow.. this cannot be so easy´!!

But later on in Indonesia, I personally met several bikers, who were having very large problems to get their bikes to Indo at all, even with carnet, and some of them mentioned some mysterious ´letter´ that they, according to the customs, were missing. One even said customs demand from him a ´Recommendation letter from the United Nations´!!

I am 100% certain, that such a letter was not required at Belawan in February 2008... but I know it´s Asia, so things are bound to change. Penang->Belawan seemed like a good route to take at that time, because it was frequently used by many overlanders, and so the customs knew the correct procedures for temporary import. If they don´t, that´s often how your troubles start (like when you go to some less-frequently used border station).

And yeah, Indonesia is an amazing place to ride!

thank you ben,

maybe you didnt read it though, we are loking to go to Indonesia not back to Malaysia from Indo...

It s about the Indonesian site, they dont let you unload even if you are at the port in Indonexia....

ben south 26 Apr 2012 15:30

hi i know you want to go to indo thats why i recomended you try port klang to dumai
using aseantex.
but i dont think it will be as cheap as mr lim's onion boat.
mr lim told me that it was the indo navy that was the problem wanting big bribes.
cheers , ben

Thats what Mr. Lim wrote me:

Dear Sir,

So far we have sending a few hundreds of motorbikes from Penang to Belawan until last month, and i am sorry to inform you that from this month onwards the Indonesia authorities will not allowed our "onion boat" to carry motorbikes to Belawan. My advice is: try Port Klang to Tanjong Babai, or port of Malaka to Dumai in Indonesia. other wice you have to use container.

Good luck,
Lim

@ben - when did you shipped your bikes from belawan to penang?
do you have the contacts from the agent on indo site?

ben south 28 Apr 2012 05:07

we used Pt melda jaya
Jl bangka timur 49

We shipped on 17 april, no good for shipping from malaysia to indonesia only working for bikes leaving indonesia. REcommend for bikes going from malaysia to indonesia to get in touch with aseantex at port klang!

Just got an e-mail from Mr. Lim:

Dear David,

Shipping a bike from Penang to Belawan is impossible unless send it by container vessel. But in your case, if you are sending your bike from Belawan, Indonesia to Penang, please go to our agent in Belawan and I think they can do something to help you out.

PT MELDA JAYA
JL BANGKA TIMUR
NO. 49 BELAWAN, INDONESIA.

RTWbyBIKE.com 14 May 2012 14:35

Anyone any news about shipping to Indo? Nothing here yet, we are meanwhile 4-5 bikes stucked in Malaysia. One way possible is to hire a container, it takes 10 days and it is super expensive plus you will find your bike in the Indo Customs, one place where you do not want to have your bike. It is a nightmare. they let you pay so much money that you which you would have shipped straight to Australia.

So anyone an Idea???

cheers and grts from Malacca

Hi Burn,

Can you please give some more information about the ferry company? Where to find them, how and how much would be very useful. Also, can you travel in the same ferry as the bike or not?

Thanks
Nacho

As we dont want to spoil the last possible way to Indo with a bike we dont posted the details openly in the internet somewhere. Instead we prepared a PDF with all contacts, documents needed and phone numbers as written in the other threads. We could help a lot of people till now. So if you want any detailed HowToCrossToIndo Instruction send a PM with your Email and I or Martin will send you a PDF with everything you need.

cheers

PS: The Info is of cause for free, nothing in for us other to help. We don´t konw the "helpers" closer neither we get any comission from them. And anyhting can change daily but at least this is a start... Good luck! Indo was one of the greatet countries to cross. "HELLO MISTER" ;)))))))
