Mid May 2012 - Vancouver to Incheon?

hello,

as the title says, i am looking for info about flying my bike and i to Incheon from Vancouver. have only been able to find one person who did it 2yrs back. im still waiting on a reply from LEI, the company that he had used. im just wondering if anyone else has some info??

i have emailed airline companies but they have replied saying that they can only ship from companies not individual people.

thanks for your time

never thought that it would be so difficult. i have sent out quite literally a hundred emails, and the best reply (one of a very few) said just over us$2000 plus a few little bits here and there.

i have searched through air freight companies listed here on the HUBB, and sent out more emails. i have even started sending out requests for sea freight, with no success.

i have contacted airline cargo (delta and korean air) they only ship with known shippers, but the names that they offer, say that they do not ship personal items.

its difficult as i am in se asia, i simply cant go through the yellow pages phoning everyone.

ah, im slowly running out of ideas here, maybe im asking the wrong questions.

if anyone has any ideas, i am all ears.....

the search continues..................

Edd,

Try searching this site using google

site:horizonsunlimited.com air freight Korea

There will be many links to read for backgound.

Many people have shipped between Korea and west coast North America, although it can seem daunting to work your way through the system to figure it out. If you have no luck reading the posts on this site, (try the shipping section as well) you can try emailing motoedde here on this site, I think he air freighted a bike from Korea to Seattle 3-4 years ago so perhaps he can provide some contacts.

That exact routing I don't know what the cost is, but while $2,000 may be on the high side, it's in the general ballpark of what it costs to cross oceans by air with a bike these days.

Let us know how things go.

slow progress. apparently i have sent out so many emails, that a few people have replied saying that my request is floating around, hope that that is a good thing...

FYI:
so far the best quote is with the same company as (if you do search here for those who have done it before) YVR > ICN using LEI.

search or ask specifically for korean air as the carrier

a crate that will hold a 650cc bike is roughly 224 x 78 x 123 cm, which gives a chargeable volume of 358kg
(
224 x 78 x 123 divided by 6000 = volume)

prices as of jan.20.2012
korean air, CAD$2.90/kg

air canada, CAD$7.21/kg

delta, CAD$12.00/kg

I will be trying to do the reverse! Which company is it that you are communicating with?
