Like Grimaldi for BAs but for the US or canada?

Hi ,

Looking if there is a RORO that you could travel in with your vehicle, a bit like Grimaldi allow people to do, to go to BAs?

Once upon a time, I am pretty sure there was a RORO doing UK to Boston where passengers could embark with their cars/bikes.

Any has done such trip by sea with their bikes to go to USA or Canada (from the UK)????

I'd be interested to find that out myself.

We put our bikes on RORO from Southampton to Baltimore in April 2011 - cost around £550 one way with Wallenius Wilhemsen but they did not allow passengers so we had to fly and meet the bikes Stateside.

Sounds interesting. Did you need to get your bikes on a container or just strapped as in a ferry?

Certainly does not seem like a common way to travel, like I understand it once was. Cheap air travel probably killed it.

No personal experience of crossing the oceans on a ship, or the quality of this website, but it might be worth checking out anyway:

1. I'm 99% certain there are no longer RORO or containerized freighters on the transatlantic route that take your vehicle/ bike and you as passenger on same vessel.

2. You can get the full Wallenius Wilhemsen scoop starting on their
website, and probably calling one of the UK (Southampton or Liverpool) offices direct, listed here:

good luck

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
