Best thing is to get into contact with Yuri, which is the guy everyone is using. Im planning on going from Vladivostok, it could be that he only deals with Vlad-Sockcho but not sure his email is

Melnikov Yuri ymelnik -!at! links-ltd dot com (with the hyphen between links and ltd)

I am planning on doing Vlad-S.korea mid/late July, any reason you were thinking of going through zarubino?

Wow. DBS Ferry has almost doubled their motorcycle freight charges from two years ago.
In fact, even their Japan to Korea rates are double those of the competing Shimonoseki - Busan ferry!
I wonder if that includes all the customs procedure fees.
No other routes between Russia and Korea, I assume?

Chris. From Vlad to Japan. What is the most cost effective way in, please? Ferry via ROK and onwards? What port of entry in Japan? I'm shooting in the dark here.

Probably from Sakhalin instead of Vladivostok.
About $450 for person and motorcycle according to the website. (as opposed to $700 for the bike alone via Korea)
WAKKANAI - SAKHALIN FARE & RATE -heartlandferry
I don't know the costs of getting from the mainland to Sakhalin island, though.
Hokkaido (north island of Japan) to Honshu (main island) ferry is about $50 for the shortest route.

Thanks a lot, Chris. Isn't there a bridge from Hokkaido to Honshu? I see you're in Nagano. In 1991 I rode up there from Tokyo on my DR250 to go to a hot spring with the delectable Kyoko. Nice area. I'll have to pop in and see you WHEN I do this!

No bridge. It would have to be 20 km long to span the Tsugaru Strait. There are ferries and a train tunnel.

Thanks, Chris. I don't know why I thought there was a bridge. In my time in Tokyo I never went further north than where you live.
