Japan to Magadan?
 

Hi there!

Is there a ferry connecting Japan and Magadan?

Our bikes are being shipped from Maui to Japan, hopefully will arrive mid June (paid total about $1500 for two bikes, ocean freight, using dhx.com). From Japan we will use a ferry to Russia. Vladivostok is probably the easiest, but I was wondering about the possibility of getting the bikes to Magadan. McGreggor's and Boorman's Road of Bones ride was quite interesting and impressive, IMHO.

Hi Stan,

I do not know whether there is a ferry from Japan to Vladivostok.

But as far as I know, there is a ferry from Vladivostok to Magadan. Unfortunately I do not have any further information as I did not do any research on this issue, too.

But maybe it is interesting for you.

about getting the bike to Magadan from Japan:

not easy as there is no direct ferry, or lets put it that way - no ferry to Magadan.

in summer I spend a fantastic month with friends in Vladivostok. I was trying to get my small honda to Kamchatka and than to Magadan.

Flying the bike was over my budget, but possible.

My advise to you: take the ferry to Vladivostok from Fushiki, clear Russian customs, than fly the bike with Air Magadan from Vladivostok to Magadan.

Ferry should cost you for the bike maybe 150 usd, flying the bike to Magadan maybe 400 usd plus crate.

I went in summer 2003 overland to magadan and sold the honda in magadan.

Thanks Mika for the Air Magadan suggestion. Ferry would be easier, crating the bike after only 1-2 weeks of riding in Japan is probably more than we are willing to do. We will likely head down the TransSiberian Hwy to Chabarovsk, lake Baikal, down to Mongolia etc.
