Istanbul to London

Hi All,

I'm thinking of doing a trip from Istanbul to London next year.

Does anyone know if it's posisble to freight a bike from the UK to Istanbul. If so, any ideas of the time it takes, or a reputable shipping agent i can use.

Many Thanks in advance.

James

Yes it is

hello james.

Yes it is possible, there is a company in Leeds that I have the details of which will ship the bike down for you in around 2 to 3 weeks. It will cost around 600GBP crated and shipped.

However, I would advise that although as a tourist (you would get a tourist visa) at the border (currently £10.00) and then report to customs to get your bike. This is where frankly I would advise you not to do what you are thinking of doing. Customs is very much a lottery and you will need a handler this end, normally shipping agents will charge extra for this in Turkey and also you will be expected to pay a "fee" to the customs officer and then they will place you bike on your passport (tiptrick.) Mine was 700Turkish Lira(350GBP). You will need all your paperwork, insurance arranged too.

It is much easier to ride in with the bike and then ride out.

If you are definitely interested, then I would suggest not to do it, but I am happy to supplier shippers details when I get to my work laptop tomorrow.

Regards, nick.

I didn't realise that Turkey would be so much of a headache.

do you know whether it's any easier shipping or flying the bike to other countries in that area around turkey.

I'd ideally like to ride through turkey across into greece and then up the coast to dubrovnik, split, etc, before going across into italy and then finally coming up through austria, switzerland etc. just thought Turkey would have made a good starting point.

Thanks for the advice, If anyone has any ideas i'd appreciate it, I'll be haign another think of what to do.

Thanks

James
